I am contacting you from my personal Microsoft account because I can no longer access my Microsoft 365 Business account.

I recently changed my phone, and I am now unable to sign in to my Microsoft 365 Business account because I cannot set up Microsoft Authenticator on my new phone. I therefore cannot complete the required verification and have been locked out of my business account.

I am currently paying for a subscription that I cannot access.

I would like to discuss this issue with someone by email, but I cannot find a contact person or an email address where I can ask for help.

I am paying for an account that I currently have no access to, so I urgently need clear instructions on how to regain access.

Please connect me with someone who can help me resolve this issue by email. I am unable to call customer support, so email communication is essential for me.

    Dear Katja,

I am truly sorry you are locked out after changing your phone. Being unable to reach an account you are actively paying for is a genuinely stressful position, and I understand the urgency. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could reset the verification method on your account for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to general guidance you can apply from your side. I am not able to reset MFA, recover access, or make any changes to your tenant.

Before anything else, two quick things are worth trying:

    1. At the sign in prompt, look for I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now and check whether an alternative method is offered, such as SMS, a phone call, an alternate email, or a saved backup code.
    2. If you still have your old phone, even without a SIM, the Authenticator app may still generate codes over Wi-Fi. That is often the quickest way back in.

Beyond that, the path depends on your role in the organization. Could you confirm whether you are the administrator of this subscription, or a user within a company that someone else manages? If there is another Global Administrator, they can reset your verification method directly from the Microsoft Entra admin center, and that resolves it in minutes without involving Microsoft support at all.

Unfortunately, if you're the sole administrator in your organization and no alternative verification methods are available, you will not be able to resolve this on your own. You will need to contact the Microsoft Data Protection team directly for assistance. This team has the tools to verify your identity and help you regain access to your account.

Since reaching support by phone is not possible, you can create a free trial tenant and submit your request from there. To set up a new tenant, follow these steps:

Visit the Office 365 Enterprise plan and pricing comparison page, choose Basic plan, and click "Try for free" to start a free trial.

Follow the guided setup process to create your new trial account.

Once the new tenant is created, you should be able to access your support portal and submit your ticket.

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center

Go to Show All > Support > New Service Request.

In the request, explain your situation in detail.

The support team will guide you through the identity verification process to help you regain access to your account.

    Important Notes:

This new test tenant doesn't give you access to your original locked tenant's data or settings. It only serves as a temporary means of contacting Microsoft support.

Be prepared for Microsoft to want to verify your identity and admin privileges from the previous tenant.

The processing time may be longer due to contacting support from another tenant.

Remember to cancel the trial subscription as soon as your original account is restored to avoid unwanted charges. You can do this in the Microsoft 365 admin center, under Billing > Your products.

I truly hope you get this resolved swiftly. Please know that even though I cannot directly intervene, pointing you toward the correct, specialized support is genuinely the most effective help I can offer from my position. Please let me know if you need anything else. Wishing you all the best.
