I am using New Outlook for Windows with a Gmail account connected to Outlook.
Starting yesterday (August 12, 2026), my Gmail account suddenly stopped synchronizing with Outlook in both directions.

Symptoms

  • Emails moved to a different folder in Outlook are not reflected in Gmail.
  • Emails deleted or otherwise organized in Outlook are not reflected in Gmail.
  • Drafts saved in Outlook do not appear in Gmail's Drafts folder.
  • Changes made in Gmail are also not reflected in Outlook.
  • New emails/changes in Gmail are not being synchronized to Outlook.
  • The issue affects all folders, not just one specific folder or label.
  • The issue started suddenly on August 12, 2026, without any intentional changes to my Outlook or Gmail settings.

What I have checked

  • The affected Gmail labels/folders exist in Gmail.
  • The relevant Gmail labels have "Show in IMAP" enabled.
  • Since the issue affects all folders and synchronization in both directions, this does not appear to be a problem with a single folder or label mapping.
  • My Gmail account is still listed in New Outlook as a Gmail account.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi 보미 최

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially when your Gmail account suddenly stops syncing in both directions across all folders even though no settings were intentionally changed.

Since the labels still exist in Gmail and Show in IMAP is already enabled, please try refreshing the connection authorization between Gmail and New Outlook for Windows.

Before proceeding, please copy any drafts or Outlook-only changes that have not yet synchronized to a safe location.

Then, follow these steps:

  • Close New Outlook completely.
  • Sign in to your Google Account through a web browser.
  • Open Security > Your connections to third-party apps and services.
  • Locate Microsoft apps and services, then remove the existing connection.
  • Reopen New Outlook and select Settings > Accounts > Your accounts.
  • Select Manage next to the affected Gmail account, then remove the account from Outlook.
  • Restart Outlook, add the Gmail account again, and select Allow when Google asks you to authorize Microsoft’s access.

Removing the account from Outlook does not delete messages stored in Gmail. These steps recreate the authorization used to connect Gmail with Outlook.

After reconnecting the account, please test whether the following items synchronize in both directions:

  • A newly received email
  • Read or unread status changes
  • A moved email
  • A deleted email
  • A newly created draft

Drafts created in Outlook may not sync back to Gmail, while drafts created in Gmail may still sync to Outlook. Therefore, the draft-related behavior could be a separate issue and does not necessarily indicate that the entire synchronization process is still not working. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.
