Outlook Tasks no longer displaying embedded emails

Does someone have a solution for Outlook Tasks no longer displaying embedded messages and links correctly?

Instead of an envelope, the task now only shows an empty box. I cannot click on any of those boxes; all links appear to be lost.

There was a similar question raised on April 25, 2018, and answered by Hal H. on May 3, 2018, it did not solve my issue:

"Have you tried pressing ALT+F9 in a new task to toggle the Field Codes display?  This applies to new tasks as well as messages:"

I depend on this function to organize all my work. Please let me know if you have any ideas!

Do you have current updates installed? There was a bug a couple of months ago that broken embedded items in tasks, but it was fixed.

Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing?

    I am using 365 2608. Same problem

Based on the other reports about this bug, it seems to be specific to Classic Outlook Version 2608.

At this time all I can suggest:

Submit a Problem Report: Help -> Feedback
Bring in Microsoft Support: Help -> Contact Support

I have verified that I do not see the problem with version 2607. You might want to consider rolling back and pausing updates until a fixed version is release.

    Hi,

Based on your description, Outlook appears to be displaying the embedded Outlook items and hyperlinks incorrectly, resulting in empty boxes instead of the usual envelope icons and clickable links. Similar symptoms have previously been associated with Outlook displaying field codes, view corruption, or issues within the Office installation.

Please try the following steps to migrate this situation:

    1. Toggle field code display
      • Open an Outlook Task.
      • Press Alt + F9.
      • Close and reopen the task to see if the embedded items display correctly.
    2. Reset the Outlook task view
      • Go to View > Current View (or Change View).
      • Select Reset View.
      • Restart Outlook and test again.
    3. Repair Microsoft Office
      • Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
      • Select Microsoft 365/Office and choose Change.
      • Run a Quick Repair first.
      • If the issue persists, run an Online Repair.
    4. Test Outlook in safe mode
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Type outlook.exe /safe and press Enter.
      • Check whether the embedded emails and links display correctly.
      • If they do, an Outlook add-in may be causing the issue.
    5. Create a New Outlook profile
      • Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles.
      • Create a new Outlook profile and test with a copy of an affected task.
