The web page msn.com when inactive keeps trying to redirect to securesweep.pro. I would like this to stop.

I had this issue also. Found an installed extension labeled "Microsoft 365", but it was obviously fake and not from MS once I looked at the details. The installed extension was something like "chromeextension/ldkjgxfjhlkkjdsflkjdflgsaj". Removed this extension and the redirects stopped.

    Hi! Let me help you.

Open Edge and copy and paste this into the address bar: edge://settings/privacy/services/search/searchEngines

Please remove securesweep.pro from the list of search engines.

This is usually caused by a deceptive redirect, browser pop-up/redirect permissions, or an extension rather than MSN itself.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Do not interact with the redirect page. Close the tab if it opens, and do not click buttons such as verification or cleanup prompts.
    2. Block pop-ups and redirects in Microsoft Edge. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Pop-ups and redirects. Make sure Blocked (recommended) is turned on, and remove any unfamiliar sites from Allowed.
    3. Disable extensions and test again. Open Extensions > Manage extensions, turn off all extensions, restart Edge, and then open MSN again. If the redirect stops, re-enable extensions one at a time to find the cause.
    4. Clear cookies and cached data for MSN, then test in an InPrivate window. This helps determine whether the redirect is tied to stored site data.
    5. Check notification permissions. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Notifications and remove any unfamiliar or untrusted sites from Allowed.
    6. Run a Microsoft Defender scan. Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection and run a Full scan.
    7. If the problem continues, reset Edge settings. Go to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values. This preserves bookmarks and saved passwords.

If the redirect appears only after MSN has been left open and the malware scan is clean, that strongly points to a browser-level redirect or advertising script issue rather than Windows itself.
