I do NOT want to be added to any GROUP without my permission. I understand I can "Leave" once I was added and group spam mailed a few times and a bunch of people added to my contact list I dont want... BUT how do I prevent being added to the GROUP of spam victims in the first place??

    Hi JEFF or MICHAELLA SCHALLER

I understand that you do not want to be added to unwanted Outlook groups, especially when they also create email and calendar spam. Please confirm these two details only:

    • Do the unwanted groups appear when you sign in to Outlook.com on the web, or only in Outlook/iPhone Calendar?
    • Can you find a “welcome to the group” message in your Inbox or Junk Email?

    Meanwhile, try the steps below:

    1) Leave the group from Outlook.com on the web

    • Sign in to Outlook.com.
    • Open Groups.
    • Select the unwanted group.
    • Choose Group settings > Leave group.

If you were added to a group, the welcome message may show who added you and may include a link to leave the group.  Reference: Join, leave, or follow Groups in Outlook | Microsoft Support

    2) If the group is not visible, search for the welcome email

    • Search your Inbox, Junk Email, and Deleted Items for:
      • “Welcome to the group”
      • The group name
      • The sender name, if known

If you find the welcome message, use the leave link from that message.

    3) Stop group mail while trying to remove the group

If leaving the group is not immediately available, open the group in Outlook.com and change the follow setting so group messages are no longer delivered to your Inbox. This does not block membership, but it can reduce the email spam.

    4) Report and block the spam messages

    In Outlook for iOS:

    • Open the unwanted message.
    • Tap the three-dot menu.
    • Select Report Junk.
    • Choose Junk, Phishing, or Block Sender, depending on the message.

Reference: How do I report phishing or junk email? | Microsoft Support

If you are using Outlook.com on the web, report suspicious messages as phishing. Then also add the sender or domain to Blocked senders.

    5) Check whether the calendar entries are coming from Outlook.com or the iPhone Calendar app

    • Open Outlook.com Calendar in a browser.
    • Check whether the unwanted group calendar appears there.

If the calendar does not appear in Outlook.com but appears only on the iPhone, it may be coming from the iPhone Calendar app. In that case, remove, unsubscribe from, or hide the unknown calendar from the iPhone Calendar app.

    6) Remove unwanted contacts or contact lists

    In Outlook.com:

    • Open People.
    • Review Contacts and Contact lists.
    • Delete anything you do not recognize.

Reference: Create, edit, or delete a contact list (or contact group) in Outlook | Microsoft Support

    7) Secure the account if unwanted groups keep appearing

If new unwanted groups continue to appear after you leave or block them, please secure your Microsoft account:

    • Run a malware scan on your device.
    • Change your Microsoft account password.
    • Enable two-step verification.
    • Review account security and Outlook.com settings.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
