Hello Team,

I am facing an issue while signing into the Cognizant portal. I am getting the error message:

"AADSTS90072: User account does not exist in tenant 'Cognizant' and cannot access the application."

I tried logging in with my registered email ID ([[Moderator note: Personal information removed]@gmail.com]), but I am unable to access the portal. It shows that my account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant.

Because of this issue, I am unable to complete my onboarding/process activities. My joining date has already passed, so I kindly request you to check and help resolve this issue as soon as possible.

I have attached the error screenshot/details for reference.

Thank you.

    Hello Jerin cf,

The issue is happening because your email ID is not added in the Cognizant Azure AD tenant. Please check with the IT or onboarding team to add your account as an external user or provide the required access.

Once this is done, you should be able to log in without any issues.

    Thank you.

    Hello @Jerin cf,

Thank you for reaching out, and I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue during your onboarding process.

The error message: “AADSTS90072: User account does not exist in tenant 'Cognizant' and cannot access the application.” means that your Gmail account has not yet been added or invited as an external/guest user in the Cognizant Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) tenant, or the invitation process was not completed successfully.

Since access to the Cognizant portal is managed internally by Cognizant administrators or the onboarding/HR team, forum moderators and public community members do not have access to add accounts or modify tenant permissions.

You can follow these steps that can help resolve the issue:

    1. Make sure you are signing in with the exact email address that was registered during onboarding.
    2. Check your inbox and spam/junk folders for any Microsoft invitation email from Cognizant. If an invitation exists, open it and accept the invitation before attempting to sign in again.
    3. Try opening the portal in an InPrivate/Incognito browser window to avoid cached sign-in conflicts.
    4. If the issue continues, contact your Cognizant HR/onboarding coordinator or internal IT support team and request that they:
      • Verify your account onboarding status
      • Add your email as a guest/external user in the Cognizant tenant
      • Re-send the Microsoft Entra ID invitation if necessary

You can send this to your Cognizant HR/onboarding coordinator or internal IT support team as a reference: Quickstart: Add a guest user and send an invitation - Microsoft Entra External ID | Microsoft Learn

Because your joining date has already passed, I recommend contacting them as soon as possible and sharing the full error message along with the screenshot you mentioned.

I hope the issue gets resolved quickly for you.

    Best regards,

The error indicates that the email account being used (for example, the Gmail address) does not exist as a user or guest in the Cognizant Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) tenant, so it cannot access the application.

To resolve this, the Cognizant tenant administrator (or the portal/onboarding support team) must:

    1. Add the email address as an external/guest user in the Cognizant tenant.
      • The error explicitly states that the account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant before it can access the application.
    2. Ensure the correct sign-in endpoint and app configuration are used:
      • If the application is intended for external/guest users, the app registration must not be single-tenant only. The signInAudience should be one of:
        • AzureADandPersonalMicrosoftAccount
        • AzureADMultipleOrgs
        • PersonalMicrosoftAccount
      • If it is currently single-tenant, the app registration must be recreated with the correct account type so external users can sign in.
    3. Confirm the correct sign-in URL is used for the app:
      • For multitenant apps: https://login.microsoftonline.com/organizations
      • For multitenant and personal accounts: https://login.microsoftonline.com/common
      • For personal accounts only: https://login.microsoftonline.com/consumers The appropriate URL must be configured as the Authority in the application.

Practical next steps for the user:

    1. Share the full error text and screenshot with the Cognizant IT/onboarding support or portal administrator.
    2. Ask them specifically to:
      • Add the Gmail address as a guest user in their Microsoft Entra tenant.
      • Verify that the application’s app registration supports external/guest or personal accounts as required.
      • Verify they are providing the correct login URL for external users.

This issue cannot be fixed from the user side alone; it requires action by the Cognizant tenant administrator.
