Not able to Drag and Drop Email from New Outlook to web browsers and Sharepoint

We have two programs that uses a browser (Edge), and our employees used to be able to drag and drop files from Outlook classic, into Edge. We since then got new Arm Surface laptops, and because we have to use New Outlook, our employees can no longer drag and drop these files without temporary "parking" them in "file explorer" or on the desktop.

-We also have the issue when dragging from New Outlook into Sharepoint (and therefore also Teams).

So does anybody knows if there is a plan, to get this working in the future?

    Dear @Martin Brouer Johansen,

I completely understand how important this drag‑and‑drop workflow is for your users, especially since it was working previously with Classic Outlook.

Based on your description, I understand that you want to Drag and Drop Email from New Outlook to web browsers and SharePoint.

In this case, what you are experiencing is a known limitation of the New Outlook for Windows, not a configuration issue with your devices, Edge, or SharePoint. In the New Outlook (which is built on a modern web-based architecture), this capability is currently not fully supported yet.

Because of this limitation, the behavior that temporarily save items to File Explorer or the desktop before uploading) is currently the expected workaround when using New Outlook.

Therefore, I totally agree the importance of this feature, particularly for workflows involving document management, compliance, or collaboration with SharePoint and Teams. Given the impact on your workflow, I strongly encourage you to submit feedback directly to Microsoft so that this scenario can be prioritized appropriately by the product team.

To ensure your feedback reaches the right teams, I highly recommend submitting your feedback directly to Microsoft Ideas · Community, where our product development team can know your requirements and ideas for product improvements. If enough users raise ticket for the same idea, Microsoft may consider adding this feature in the future.

Note: As Microsoft Community moderators, please note that we are not involved in product design decisions and do not have direct access to the development roadmap, we want to assure you that your feedback has been acknowledged and is valued.

In the meantime, here are some workarounds I recommend you try. For reference, please refer to How to Save Emails to SharePoint in the New Outlook for Windows

Drag and drop from New Outlook into web browsers (including Edge), SharePoint, and Teams is currently limited compared to classic Outlook, and the provided context does not document any fix or roadmap commitment for restoring classic-style drag-and-drop behavior from New Outlook into browser-based apps.

From the SharePoint side, drag-and-drop support in document libraries depends on HTML5 and browser capabilities. The documented behavior is:

    • Drag-and-drop into SharePoint libraries works for files only, not folders, when using supported modern browsers (latest Firefox, Chrome, or desktop IE 10/11, or IE 8/9 with Office 2013+ installed).
    • If the browser or client stack does not meet these requirements, drag-and-drop options may be missing or limited.

However, the context only covers drag-and-drop within SharePoint and browsers, not from New Outlook into those targets, and it does not state any planned enhancement for New Outlook to match classic Outlook’s drag-and-drop integration with browsers/SharePoint/Teams.

Given the available information, the only documented workarounds remain:

    • Temporarily saving or “parking” messages/attachments to File Explorer and then uploading to SharePoint/Teams.
    • Using OneDrive/SharePoint sync or “Open with Explorer” for file operations when working with document libraries.

No official plan or ETA for enabling direct drag-and-drop from New Outlook into Edge/SharePoint/Teams is described in the provided material.
