Hello,

I'm hitting error code 715-123280 while setting up a Microsoft 365 subscription. The full message is:

"Something happened. An error occurred. Please reach out to support for additional assistance."

Error Code: 715-123280 EventId: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]   SID: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]   cV: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]

What I've already tried, with no change:

  • Multiple browsers
  • Incognito / private mode
  • A different device
  • Clearing cache and cookies

Based on other threads here, my understanding is that 715-123280 is a backend provisioning/billing issue on Microsoft's side that can't be resolved locally and needs to be investigated using the EventId/SID. I've also been unable to reach a human on the phone support line, as the automated system keeps looping me before I can speak to anyone.

Could a moderator please advise on the correct way to open a support ticket for this, or escalate it for backend investigation? I'm happy to provide any further detail privately if needed.

Thanks in advance.

For error code 715-123280 when purchasing a Microsoft 365 business subscription, the issue must be handled by Microsoft support because it involves backend billing/provisioning and cannot be fixed from the client side.

To open a support request for a Microsoft 365 for business billing/subscription issue:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center at https://admin.microsoft.com with the admin account for the tenant.
    2. In the left navigation, select Help & support.
    3. In the query box, briefly describe the issue (for example, “Error 715-123280 when purchasing Microsoft 365 Business – see EventId and SID in error message”).
    4. If the automated results do not resolve the problem, scroll to the bottom and select Contact Support.
    5. Enter a detailed description of the problem and include:
      • Error code: 715-123280
      • EventId
      • SID
      • cV value
      • Date/time and region when the purchase was attempted
    6. Confirm a contact phone number and email address, choose the preferred contact method, and submit the request.

If the subscription is being acquired under a volume licensing agreement, use the dedicated volume licensing support path:

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, select Help & support.
    2. In the query box, type “manage volume licensing” together with the question.
    3. If the results do not help, select Contact Support.
    4. Provide the License ID or VL agreement number along with the error details and submit the request.

If access to the admin center is not possible but the scenario involves volume licensing, an online support request can be created using the volume licensing support option referenced in the documentation.

Once the ticket is created, the support team can use the EventId/SID/cV values to investigate the backend provisioning and billing systems and complete or correct the subscription setup.

    Hi @Dom,

Thanks for providing such a detailed description of the issue. And yes, your understanding is absolutely on point. Errors like 715-123280 are typically related to backend provisioning or billing processes, and they usually can’t be resolved through local troubleshooting steps alone.

Before we go further, I’d just like to reconfirm one key detail to better understand your setup. Are you currently working within an existing tenant and trying to purchase additional licenses, or are you in the process of purchasing a subscription for the first time to create a new tenant? This will help determine the most appropriate path forward.

In the meantime, could you please try signing up again for a trial subscription to create a new tenant from the Microsoft 365 Business plans page:  Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365

If you’re able to successfully create a new tenant, you can then open a support ticket through the Microsoft 365 admin center. Alternatively, if you know someone who already has an active tenant, you could ask them to help submit a support request on your behalf. And just to circle back to my earlier question, if you do already have an existing tenant, you should also be able to create a support ticket directly from there.

If you have any updates or if anything feels unclear, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment under this post. I’ll do my best to continue supporting you within my scope.

Thank you so much for your understanding!
