Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
New Outlook for Windows does not support being used as a MAPI mail client, which is what the Windows “Send to → Mail recipient” right‑click option relies on. Because of this architectural limitation, the context menu action cannot send a file directly to New Outlook.
The available workarounds are:
- Use Classic Outlook as the default mail client
- Classic Outlook is MAPI‑compliant and will work with “Send to → Mail recipient.”
- Switch back to Classic Outlook using the toggle in the top‑right of Outlook (if available) and set Classic Outlook as the default mail app in Windows.
- Attach from inside New Outlook instead
- Open New Outlook.
- Create a new message.
- Use Attach File on the Message tab and choose:
- Browse This Computer to pick the document from the desktop folder, or
- A OneDrive/SharePoint location if the files are stored in the cloud.
There is currently no fix that makes the Windows right‑click “Send to Mail recipient” command work directly with New Outlook; using Classic Outlook or attaching from within New Outlook are the supported options.
