My Microsoft account won’t accept any payment methods after several failed card attempts — what to do?

My Microsoft account is set to Latvia. All my bank cards are issued in Latvia. I am currently physically located in Belgium. A payment became overdue because I lost my bank card so it was blocked by the bank. After that, when I tried to add a new card, the payment started failing. I made multiple failed payment attempts and tried adding several different cards. Since then, no payment method can be added at all, and PayPal does not appear as an option. I am adding payment methods via a browser at account.microsoft.com. Clearing cookies, using different browsers, and retrying later did not help. This looks like the Microsoft payment profile has been blocked or restricted, rather than an issue with the cards themselves.

Hello Samanta Iļjašova,

Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum

I understand how confusing this is, especially when none of your cards or PayPal can be added and there is no clear message explaining why.

For the security and privacy of your account, community members and moderators on this public forum do not have access to user accounts, billing details, or payment information. Therefore, we are unable to investigate charges or process refunds.

This issue must be addressed directly with the official Microsoft Support team for Accounts and Billing:

  1. Go to Contact Us - Microsoft and sign in your account.
  2. Type Billing and payment in the search box.
  3. Click Get help and Select Contact Support.
  4. Choose Microsoft 365 and Office as Products and Services; and Billing and payment updates as Category
  5. Click Confirm.
  6. You can choose to chat with a support representative.

Note: The chat support team only works during certain working hours. Therefore, if the last window indicates that you are unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can call you and help you.

It sounds like you are experiencing issues with your Microsoft account's payment methods due to multiple failed attempts and possibly a restriction on your payment profile. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Verify Card Information: Ensure that the card information you are entering is accurate, including the card number, expiration date, and billing address. This information must match what is on file with your bank.
    2. Contact Your Bank: Since your previous card was blocked, contact your bank to confirm that there are no restrictions or issues with your new card. They may have security measures in place that could be affecting your ability to add the card.
    3. Use a Different Payment Method: If possible, try using a different payment method that is valid in your country/region. Note that Microsoft requires payment methods to be issued from the same country/region as your tenant.
    4. Check for Account Restrictions: If you suspect that your Microsoft payment profile has been blocked or restricted, you may need to contact Microsoft support for assistance. They can provide specific details about your account status and help resolve any restrictions.
    5. Retry Later: Sometimes, payment systems may temporarily block attempts after several failed attempts. Waiting a short period before trying again can sometimes resolve the issue.
    6. Clear Cache and Cookies: Although you mentioned you have already tried this, it's worth ensuring that your browser's cache and cookies are fully cleared before attempting to add a payment method again.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, reaching out to Microsoft support may be your best option for further assistance.
