I cant Sign into my installed Office apps

I can't access my installed office apps as I can no longer sign in. I can't sign in to Edge either, however if I go to my Microsoft account in Edge it opens fine. I have had increasing problems since the 24H2 update and have also lost the search functionality in the desktop.

When trying to sign in to Office apps I get the following error:

I have tried getting hold of Microsoft help but this also does not work, I guess for the same reason.

Hi Jim, welcome in community

According to reports from users on Microsoft’s official forums, the most common causes include:

Temporary issues with Microsoft authentication servers

Corrupted files in the credential cache

Conflicts between personal and work accounts

Problems with local user profiles or certificates

Third-party software (such as antivirus tools) interfering with secure connections

Here are some steps you can try to fix the issue:

1. Clear stored credentials

Press Win + S and type Credential Manager

Open Windows Credentials

Remove any entries related to MicrosoftOffice or MicrosoftAccount

Restart your PC and try signing in again

2. Repair Office apps

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps

Search for Microsoft Office

Click Modify, then choose Repair

This process reinstalls missing or corrupted components that may prevent authentication or synchronization with your Microsoft account.

if not solved, delete temporary files of Outlook:

  1. Go to C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft
  2. Delete contents of the IdentityCache and OneAuth folders

re-try and let me know

Elvis

It seems that you are experiencing sign-in issues with your Microsoft Office apps, which may be related to the recent 24H2 update. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Office applications are updated to the latest version. Sometimes, updates can resolve sign-in issues.
    2. Clear Cache and Cookies: In Edge, clear the cache and cookies as this can sometimes resolve sign-in problems. You can do this by going to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data.
    3. Check Security Software: If you have security software installed, it might be interfering with the sign-in process. Temporarily disable it to see if that resolves the issue.
    4. Reinstall WAM Plug-ins: If the issue persists, you may need to reinstall the Web Account Manager (WAM) plug-ins. You can do this using PowerShell commands as outlined in the troubleshooting documentation.
    5. Event Viewer: Check the Event Viewer for any relevant error messages that might provide more insight into the issue. Look for entries related to the AAD (Azure Active Directory) under Applications and Services Logs.
    6. Contact Microsoft Support: Since you mentioned difficulty in reaching Microsoft support, you might want to try again or explore their online resources for further assistance.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to monitor the situation for any changes or additional error messages that could provide more context.

Did all of the above but it did not help. Finally uninstalled my virus checker and everything installed over past four months and installed a repair version of windows. This appears to have solved all the problems.

I will reload the virus checker and see if it still works and if it does I'm going to play safe and not load anything else.
