A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data
Dear @Hwy17,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand how disruptive it is when STOCKHISTORY suddenly stops working. According to my research, many users have reported this issue. However, Jan 1 is a market holiday in many regions. Before giving you the best solution, could you please confirm these questions below to help me diagnose the issue more effectively:
- What exact error message do you see in the cells?
- Does STOCKHISTORY fail for all tickers or only some of them?
- Are you using Excel on desktop, Excel for the web, or both? Does the function fail in Excel for the web as well?
- Have you recently updated Office or changed accounts? If not, I recommend you try update Office (File > Account > Update Options > Update Now)
- Whether the STOCKHISTORY issue also happens on another device or when using a different Microsoft 365 account?
- Which Microsoft 365 subscription you are currently using?
In the meantime, here are some steps I recommend you try:
Step 1: Try opening the same file in Excel for the web or creating a new file for testing
Step 2: Refresh your Excel session
- Sign out of Excel (File > Account > Sign out)
- Close Excel completely
- Restart your computer
- Open Excel and sign back in
Step 3: Repair Microsoft Office Apps
Repair options from the Settings page
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the More ... icon next to the app you want to fix.
- Select Advanced options (some apps don't have this option).
- Select the Microsoft 365 or Office product you want to repair, click the ellipses, and select Modify.
- In the page that opens, select Repair if it's available. If it isn't available or doesn't fix the problem, select Reset.
- For more tips, see Repair an Office application.
Note: Depends on your Microsoft 365 or Office installation type (Click-to-run or MSI-based), you'll see the following options to proceed with the repair. Follow the steps for your installation type.
Repair options from the Control Panel
- In the search box on the taskbar, enter control panel and select Control Panel from the results.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Right-click the program you want to fix and select Repair, or if that’s not available, select Change, then choose Quick Repair (or Online Repair if needed).
- Then follow the directions on the screen.
Step 4: Report a problem
If the problem continues, I recommend you report an issue directly inside the Excel app so the Microsoft product team can review the logs and investigate the behavior by go to Excel > Help > Feedback > Report a problem
