Flooded with PDF spam (inappropriate content) and shocked by the lack of basic security controls.

For the last two weeks, my Personal OneDrive has been flooded with spam shares containing PDFs with inappropriate and malicious titles. Since I actively use OneDrive for my files, I tried to stop this, but I've hit a wall:

No "Block External Shares" option: I am speechless that a service promoted so heavily to Windows end-users lacks this basic security functionality. Unlike Business accounts, Personal accounts seemingly cannot block shares from strangers.

Note: Blocking individual contacts is not a solution because these attacks use rotating emails. As soon as I block one sender, another bot account sends the next file.

Deleting/Removing is a nightmare: I cannot simply "delete" these files because they are shared with me, not owned by me. I have to select them one by one and "Remove from shared list." I am receiving dozens of these a day, and I can't find a working bulk operation to remove them all at once.

How can a service from a company this size be so lacking in basic anti-abuse tools? Why is there no "Only allow sharing from contacts" switch?

I don't know how to proceed. The spam is relentless, and the lack of tools to manage it is amateurish. I am genuinely considering ending my subscription over this. Has anyone found a real workaround?

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating situation with spam shares in your Personal OneDrive account. Unfortunately, as of now, Personal accounts do not have the same level of control over external sharing as Business accounts do. Here are a few points to consider:

    1. Blocking External Shares: Personal OneDrive accounts do not offer an option to block external shares entirely. This limitation can make it difficult to prevent spam from reaching your account.
    2. Managing Shared Files: Since the files are shared with you and not owned by you, you need to remove them from your shared list individually. Unfortunately, there is no bulk operation available to remove multiple shared files at once, which can be tedious if you're receiving many spam shares.
    3. Contact Blocking: Blocking individual contacts may not be effective due to the use of rotating email addresses by spammers. This makes it challenging to manage unwanted shares effectively.
    4. Workarounds: While there may not be a direct solution within OneDrive, you could consider reporting the spam to Microsoft through their support channels. Additionally, you might want to explore using a different email address for your OneDrive account to minimize spam.
    5. Feedback to Microsoft: Providing feedback to Microsoft about your experience can help them understand user needs better and potentially lead to improvements in their services.

If the spam continues to be a significant issue, you might want to evaluate other cloud storage options that provide better anti-abuse tools and sharing controls.
