Hello, I recently renewed my Microsoft 365 subscription, switching from a Family plan (which expired on November 12, 2025) to a Personal plan. The new subscription is active and correctly billed under my account, with the next charge scheduled for November 2026.

However, despite formatting my laptop and signing in with the same account, Windows 11 continues to show that my Microsoft 365 Family subscription has expired. It does not recognize the active Personal subscription and keeps prompting me to resubscribe.

Office apps like Word and Excel are working fine and show the correct subscription, but the Windows system itself (in Settings > Accounts and the Start Menu profile section) still displays the expired Family plan.

I’ve already:

Verified that I’m signed in with the correct account.

Reinstalled Office from my Microsoft account.

Restarted the device multiple times.

Is there a way to force Windows to refresh or sync the subscription status from my Microsoft account?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi 핼리 엘파이어,

Thanks for sharing your concern on Microsoft Q&A.

Based on your words, I understand that after transferring your Family plan to Personal, the Family plan still prompts on your Microsoft account, even the Office services show the right purchase.

In this case, you could try to refresh subscription and identity status.. such as following:

  1. Verify the active subscription on your Microsoft account to ensure the renewal and next‑charge date are correct. Go to account.microsoft.com/services and check the Subscriptions section (look for “Has recurring billing” or “Next charge”).
  2. Sign out of all Microsoft 365 apps and sign in again (Word, Excel, Outlook). This regenerates the license/identity tokens that Windows often reads for account notices. Close every Office app, sign out, reopen, then sign back in.
  3. Update Office to the latest build, then restart the PC. New builds include fixes that reconcile account prompts after plan changes.
  4. If you recently changed payment details or switched plans, confirm billing info is valid and saved; then restart Office apps and Windows. Identity prompts can persist until billing changes fully propagate.

Tip: After completing the steps, restart the PC and sign in again; banners in Settings > Accounts and the Start menu profile typically re-evaluate your account state after a fresh sign-in.

I hope the above steps will help for your case. In case you need further help, please do not hesitate to be letting me know in the comment below.

Thanks, and best regards,
