New Outlook Drag/Drop Calendar Entries Between Calendars

In Classic Outlook I was able to drag calendar entries that were made on my personal account and drop them in a different calendar on my account. (context: I make a lot of room reservations on behalf of other people, so I would take those meetings off my personal calendar to clean it up and make it not look like I was busy/had other things going on). Now in New Outlook this feature is no longer available.

Does anyone know when a fix is going to be deployed for this??? Thanks so much for any help!!

    Dear @Bennett, Bailey,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

It's understandable that losing a core workflow feature like drag-and-drop is a major impediment to your daily work, especially since you rely on it heavily for managing room reservations.

You have correctly identified a known limitation in the current version of the New Outlook for Windows/Mac. From my research, the ability to drag and drop calendar items between separate calendars, especially calendars belonging to different accounts (even if they are all your accounts) is not currently supported in the New Outlook. This feature, which was available in Classic Outlook, is a piece of functionality that has not yet reached parity in the new architecture.

Since this feature is currently missing, here are two immediate workarounds:

    1. Use the Classic Outlook: The most reliable way to maintain your current workflow is to switch back to the Classic version of Outlook temporarily. The toggle switch for this is usually located in the top-right corner of the New Outlook window.
    2. Duplicate and Delete (In New Outlook): While tedious, you can replicate the effect:
    • Right-click on the meeting you want to move.
    • Choose Duplicate or Copy.
    • Edit the new copy and change the Calendar field to the destination calendar (e.g., the team or room reservation calendar).
    • Once confirmed, go back and Delete the original entry from your personal calendar.

If this is a feature you would like to see, I suggest keeping an eye on the New Microsoft Outlook blog or the Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365 for any updates on this feature. In the meantime, I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. I also strongly recommend that you share your detailed experience and feedback directly with the Microsoft product team through their official channels. This is the most effective way to make your voice heard and influence future feature improvements and adjustments.  You can visit the Outlook (new) · Community to submit a new idea or vote on existing one. Our product team is in charge of this site, and they constantly check customer reviews and feedback. The higher the number of votes, the more attention the team will pay to it. Many features are developed and improved based on customer feedback. As a moderator, I will also pass along your feedback to the appropriate team for further consideration. While we don't directly influence product design, user feedback is actively reviewed and helps prioritize future development.

Here is an example draft for your feedback:

Title: Restore Drag-and-Drop for Calendar Entries Between Calendars

In Classic Outlook, users could easily move or copy an existing calendar entry between any visible calendars by simply dragging and dropping the item. In the New Outlook, this functionality is missing. Moving an entry now requires a multi-step process (duplicate, edit, delete) which significantly disrupts my administrative workflow.

Proposed Solution/Feature: Restore the ability to drag and drop a calendar entry from one calendar to any other calendar visible in the list.

    • Result (Default): The event should be Moved from Calendar A to Calendar B.
    • Result (Optional): Holding the Ctrl key (or Option/Command on Mac) while dragging should Copy the event.

User Value: This feature is critical for users who manage multiple calendars, such as those who create room reservations on their personal calendar but need to quickly offload them to a dedicated Room Calendar for accurate availability management.

Once you submit your feedback, please post the link here so other users looking for the same feature can easily find and vote for it. I will personally vote for your feedback to help it gain traction and hopefully, Microsoft will make improvements soon.

I really understand how disruptive and frustrating this kind of issue can be for your workflow. I want you to know that I wish I had a way to change it for you directly but as a moderator of Q&A forum, my ability to assist is with the existing product functionality and the power to influence its design rests entirely with our product development team. We appreciate your kindness and understanding as we deal with these evolutionary product changes. Please get in touch if you need anything else.

As other users will also search information in this community, your valuable vote will definitely also help other users who have similar queries easily to find the correct channel and useful information more quickly.
