My Outlook 365 e-mail folders are empty but I have not deleted anything

I have created a folder structure in my Outlook 365 inbox to store e-mails related to particular subjects. I recently noticed that all the e-mails in most (bit not all) folders are gone but the folder structure is still there. I have not deleted them - where have they gone and how can I get them back?

Hello. Thanks for reaching out.

Can you please check if the missing emails also don’t appear when you sign in to Outlook on the web at outlook.office.com? If they’re gone there too, the emails might have been moved or affected by retention settings or sync issues.

Check your Deleted Items and Archive folders, and look in “Recover items deleted from this folder.” If you use Outlook desktop, also review your sync settings under Account Settings and make sure “Mail to keep offline” is set to “All.”

If the emails are missing across all platforms, contact your Microsoft 365 admin or Microsoft Support to review recovery options from the server.
