Dear Jonathan L,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A.
Our diagnosis of the problem is spot on. The issue often comes from the interaction between two settings:
- Scale (Display Settings): Found under Settings > System > Display > Scale. This zooms in on everything—icons, text, windows—like a magnifying glass. Laptops with high-resolution screens often default to a high scaling percentage (like 200%) to make things readable. When you lowered it to 150% to get more screen space, you made everything, including the base font size, smaller.
- Text Size (Accessibility Settings): This setting specifically targets the size of the text in system menus, apps, and browsers, without changing the size of icons or application windows.
The ideal way to fix this issue, especially when you only want to change the font size and not the size of everything else, is through the Accessibility settings.
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Text size.
- Drag the slider to the right until the sample text looks comfortable for you.
- Click Apply.
Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your cooperation.
