A few machines in our office experienced an issue where IIS Manager displayed a blank screen after installing the new updates. KB5064081 is a preview update. After removing the updates it the IIS manager is able to use all features. But few machine unable to remove the updates getting 0x800f0825.

After uninstalling KB5064081, the Windows version successfully rolled back from OS Build 26100.5074 to 26100.2454. However, on some machines, the update cannot be removed. Even when running the command wusa /uninstall /kb:5064081 /quiet /norestart , the uninstallation still fails.

Out of frustration and other ongoing issues, I wiped and reloaded windows. This is the only updates my computer has received with the wipe/reload and that specific update isn't there.

I have the same problem after the KB5064081 update. I have restored the last working version using a system restore point. But now I have to disable KB5064081 because it immediately destroys the IIS.

I also have the same problem on multiple machines - on both 24H2 (standard build), and 25H2 (Windows Insider Preview build) If this setting is on, the update is installed automatically... and... no IIS Manager!

Replacing "%WINDOWS_PUBLIC_KEY_TOKEN%" with "31bf3856ad364e35" in C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\administration.config instantly worked - all items in IIS Manager are back.

You need local admin rights to make changes to that file, and replacing all instances of %WINDOWS_PUBLIC_KEY_TOKEN% did the trick immediately after saving the file!

Are you bloody serious?! I spent 2 whole days thinking it was an issue with my computer... resulted in just giving up and resetting my computer and still had the same issue... Then found this and fixed within 10min or less. GRRRRRRR MICROSOFT !!!

Open the file C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\administration.config using Notepad (or another plain text editor).

In this file, replace every instance of:

%WINDOWS_PUBLIC_KEY_TOKEN%

with:

31bf3856ad364e35

Save the file once all replacements are complete.

this is the solution. I am missing a couple of virtual sites for my applications, I think because I uninstalled/reinstalled so many times, but IIS Console is working again after this change. I can re-add the virtual directory from VS2022 in seconds when I restart the project. Thanks for posting this!
