This still has not been fixed with a patch or update. Are there any other suggestions to fix this as the suggestions above did not fix it and there have been no updates that fixed it either?
Taskbar issue

I am not sure how this happened, but a couple days ago, I suddenly got a duplicate "google" on the taskbar whenever I open Edge to google.com. I have tried unpinning it and it will not let me and if I close either one, both close. How do I get rid of the 2nd google on the taskbar. It does not show up if Edge is on a different website.

In this case, I suggest checking whether this is isolated to your Windows user profile:
- Open Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
- Under Other users, select Add someone else to this PC.
- When prompted for a Microsoft account, choose I don’t have this person’s sign‑in information.
- Select Add a user without a Microsoft account.
- Create a local username and password, then complete the setup.
- Sign out of your current account and sign in to the newly created user profile.
- Open Microsoft Edge, go to google.com, and check whether the duplicate Google icon still appears on the taskbar.
If the issue does not occur in the new profile, that would confirm it’s tied to the original user profile’s taskbar or app settings.

Thank you for confirming that the issue does not occur in a new user profile.
Since this behavior is isolated to the original profile, you can continue using the new profile and sign in with your Microsoft account, leaving the corrupted profile as is.
To do this, go to Settings > Accounts > Your info and select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
To move your data, copy your personal folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, etc.) from C:\Users<OldUserName> to C:\Users<NewUserName>. Please avoid copying system folders such as AppData.
Once everything is working as expected in the new profile, the old profile can remain unused or be removed later if you wish.

I completely understand wanting a solution that fixes the issue rather than working around it.
Since the issue does not occur in a new user profile, this confirms the Windows OS itself is functioning correctly and that the problem is specific to corruption within the original profile. Unfortunately, Windows does not offer a reliable way to fully repair a corrupted user profile in place.
If using a new Windows user profile isn’t a preferred option, the only remaining way to fully ensure the issue is resolved would be a clean installation of Windows, which rebuilds the OS and user environment from scratch. Kindly note that this option requires backing up all personal data in advance, as installed applications and local files would be removed.
