Copilot not generating useable download links

Hi all,

Experiencing an issue with Copilot where when creating spreadsheets and documents, Copilot is not able to provide a working download link.

For example, if I ask it to create a Word document called "Test", it will reply saying that "the document "Test.docx" has been created and can be downloaded via the following link:", however there is no link, just plain text.

I have also tried asking for the URL of the download link and when pasting this into Edge, I just get a "This webpage can't be found" error message.

I hope someone is able to assist with this.

Hi there, I am experiencing a similar issue. Whenever I try to use the standalone Copilot 365 app to generate a Word document, I get this error: However, I cannot directly generate a downloadable Word file or host a link because file creation and external hosting are disabled in this environment.

Anybody got any idea how I can reenable this functionality?? It was working fine until a few days ago. I should asdd, that a few days ago Copilot stopped producing clickable links for me, now this, Its making relying on copilot to be sa very risky game.

I'm experiencing the same issue; it displays "Download the Excel/Word document" but fails to provide a link for downloading. This was functioning properly until recently.

STILL an issue. SEVEN months without an acknowledgement or at least a workaround is a deafening silence. You can do better than this M$.

Yep 12th March 2026 and same issues. Trying to make a simple bookkeeping spreadsheet and no matter how many times it tells me to open the link, click on a tab nothing exists. I’ve wasted 2 hours on this today. Now I learn they are ‘hallucinations’ , it keeps saying ‘you’ve done nothing wrong’ because I haven’t! My first and for the time being, last attempt to use Co-pilot, gawd knows what it costs to develop all this nonsense but what a complete waste of time and money.

THIS WORKED! I had Copilot create an Excel workbook that I couldn't download, but when I re-entered the prompt via Frontier I received a downloadable link. THANK YOU Alvin Bass!

I am having a similar problem, although I am trying to create an excel sheet, it says it has it created, then will give me a supposedly downloadable file then says, "File unavailable. Generated files expire after a short period. Please regenerate if needed", when I try to download it. Actually, as I am making this comment now, it is downloadable. All I did was not go on Copilot for a few hours and tried again just now. So it seems time fixed it. Hope this helps.

Please be patient??? So the hours I spent working with Copilot to generate a PDF form and a Word form weren’t really to generate the forms it said it could give me but were really spent training Copilot for you??? What a joke.
