    Hi Landry,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.

You're dealing with a issue: a Microsoft "account conflict" where both a personal Microsoft account and a work/school account (Azure AD) share the same email address, typically something like ******@yourcompany.com.

This causes confusion for login systems that can’t tell which account you mean unless explicitly told, leading to:

    • Sign-in prompts asking you to choose between "Work or School account" and "Personal account"
    • Incorrect resource access or failed authentications
    • Azure, Teams, OneDrive, or licensing issues

    Why This Happens

    Microsoft allows:

    • Personal accounts (e.g., created on outlook.com or Xbox) to be made using any email - including work domains.
    • Work/School accounts (Azure AD or Entra ID) are issued through your organization.

So if you created a personal Microsoft account using your work email before your company set up Azure/Entra, or vice versa, both identities now exist and conflict.

    Options to Resolve the Conflict

Option 1: Rename the Personal Microsoft Account

This is the recommended approach by Microsoft.

You’ll keep the personal account and its data, but change its login alias to something else (e.g., a personal Gmail address).

    Steps:

    1. Go to: https://account.microsoft.com
    2. Log in using the personal account (******@yourcompany.com)
    3. Navigate to Your Info > Account aliases
    4. Click Add email, add a new personal email address (e.g., ******@gmail.com)
    5. Set the new alias as primary
    6. Remove the work email alias (******@yourcompany.com) from the personal account

This frees up your company email for exclusive use with your Work/School account.

Option 2: Just Keep Them Both (with Workarounds)

If changing the personal account isn't possible (e.g., you use it for OneDrive, Xbox, or Microsoft Rewards), you can keep both, but you'll need to be careful when signing in.

    Use these tips:

    • Always choose “Work or School Account” when prompted for Azure/Teams/OneDrive
    • Add both accounts to separate browser profiles (Chrome/Edge)
    • Use the Microsoft Authenticator app with both identities labeled clearly
    • Avoid using the work email to sign up for new personal Microsoft services

Hopefully, this information can help you solve this issue. Please know that we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive to support you. Hello Kristen and thank you for your response.

Currently i only have my personal email as Alias - see below. any other way to get around this ?

I am not sure why when i try to login on Azure it pulls a formal employer portal instead of my personal Azure subscription. please see second screen capture.
