Error code: 0-2031 (17002)

Hi,

Since the last update of my windows 10 MS office cannot start properly. Once Word, Excel, and other Office apps are opened an error pops up saying "We're sorry, but * ran into an error that is preventing it from working correctly...".

I've searched this website for help but all proposed solutions does not work. The following are the solutions I have tried doing:

    1. Since the "Repair now" DOES NOT WORK, this site suggested to open control panel > programs > uninstall a program > Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise - en - us > change > online repair > repair. After doing this steps and waiting for it to "fix" itself, the same error code pops up.

    2. Uninstall and reinstall. The problem with this is that uninstalling itself via control panel does not work. MS office will open then "uninstalling office" window will display but will not finish. It will spit out another error code that says it is unable to uninstall office.

    3. Installing MS office via Microsoft Store does not work. The app store itself is broken since any other app does not want to download/install.

I have been using office 365 for about a year without any issue but since the W10 updated, the app does not want to open. I have sufficient storage space, strong and consistent internet connect, and an updated Windows 10

Regards,

Ethan

I have finally had success!

Turned off antivirus, downloaded the Microsoft tool and ran it, then used my original office setup icon on the desktop to reinstall.

Hoorah!

The dreaded word Update caused the problem. Always causes some issue or other. Wish I didn't have to do the updates.

    Hi Ethan B.S.,

Thanks for your post in our forum.

Based on your description, it seems like after the update for Win10, an error appears for all Office applications.

Since you have tried Online Repair, reinstall and Microsoft Store, kindly try clean boot to see if Office apps are available to open, in order to troubleshot if this issue is related to the admin permission for Windows system. If the same error exists, please try following steps.

1.Use SARA tool to have a complete uninstallation. For your reference: About the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant - Office Support

2.Use ODT to install Office applications. For your reference: Overview of the Office Deployment Tool - Deploy Office | Microsoft Docs

If my suggestions fail to fix the issue, please post back the test results and the screenshot of the error message for further check. Also, share a screenshot of your subscription via this link.

    Best Regards,

    Mia

    Hi Mia,

I've tried the clean boot. The instruction gave two options:

A.) open the application after clean booth - the same error pops up

B.) uninstall the application - I was finally able to completely uninstall MS office (it was impossible previously). Once I reinstall MS office once again, *Error code :30015-11 (3221356598)*appear. After closing, another prompt displays which says "couldn't install" with another Error code: 0-2031 (17002).

I forgot to mention previously that I already tried to use Sara. This doesn't fix the problem.

Tried to use the ODT to install MS office but the link you provided have a way too complicated and unconcise instructions. I will try to find a Youtube video to have a clearer instruction. I will get back to this thread if ODT works.

    Regards,

    Ethan B.S.

    Hi,

I've figured out how to use ODT to install MS Office. It loaded longer than before but still the error codes appears at the end.

    Regards,

    Ethan

    Hi Ethan B.S.,

Appreciate your patience and effort on this issue.

Generally we have two ways to install Office suite, one is from Office 365 home page and click install button, and the other is ODT(Office Deployment Tool).

Since they both failed in installing Office currently. Let's try changing a user profile to see if Office can be installed on a new system environment. This step can also help us narrow down if the issue only appears in a specific user profile.

For your reference: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

After setting a new user for Win10, please sign in Microsoft Office Home with your subscription account and click the Install Office button in the top-right corner.

Please share us with the result and we will try our best to offer any help.

    Best Regards,

    Mia
