Error code: 0-2031 (17002)

Hi,

Since the last update of my windows 10 MS office cannot start properly. Once Word, Excel, and other Office apps are opened an error pops up saying "We're sorry, but * ran into an error that is preventing it from working correctly...".

I've searched this website for help but all proposed solutions does not work. The following are the solutions I have tried doing:

    1. Since the "Repair now" DOES NOT WORK, this site suggested to open control panel > programs > uninstall a program > Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise - en - us > change > online repair > repair. After doing this steps and waiting for it to "fix" itself, the same error code pops up.

    2. Uninstall and reinstall. The problem with this is that uninstalling itself via control panel does not work. MS office will open then "uninstalling office" window will display but will not finish. It will spit out another error code that says it is unable to uninstall office.

    3. Installing MS office via Microsoft Store does not work. The app store itself is broken since any other app does not want to download/install.

I have been using office 365 for about a year without any issue but since the W10 updated, the app does not want to open. I have sufficient storage space, strong and consistent internet connect, and an updated Windows 10

Regards,

Ethan

I have finally had success!

Turned off antivirus, downloaded the Microsoft tool and ran it, then used my original office setup icon on the desktop to reinstall.

Hoorah!

The dreaded word Update caused the problem. Always causes some issue or other. Wish I didn't have to do the updates.

    Hi Ethan,

Sorry to hear that website and ODT installations both failed even in a new user profile.

If this is the situation, it may convey that the issue is related with some corrupted settings in the operating system. May I know which Windows OS you are using? After I researched the error code for the first time, I did find that someone fixed the same issue after they upgraded their operating system.

Appreciate your efforts and thanks for understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Mia

    Hi Mia

Sorry for the late reply. I've tried to install via the MS Office website and ODT through another user profile. Both did not work and gave the same error code.

    Regards,
    Ethan

    Hi Ethan,

May I know if the installation is successful in a new user profile? The result can help us narrow down the cause of the issue.

Welcome to post back and we will try our best to offer any help.

    Best Regards,

    Mia

    Hi Ethan B.S.,

Appreciate your patience and effort on this issue.

Generally we have two ways to install Office suite, one is from Office 365 home page and click install button, and the other is ODT(Office Deployment Tool).

Since they both failed in installing Office currently. Let's try changing a user profile to see if Office can be installed on a new system environment. This step can also help us narrow down if the issue only appears in a specific user profile.

For your reference: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

After setting a new user for Win10, please sign in Microsoft Office Home with your subscription account and click the Install Office button in the top-right corner.

Please share us with the result and we will try our best to offer any help.

    Best Regards,

    Mia
