My spell check box keeps popping up out of the blue in my Word, Excel and Outlook. It will not go away and I can't type after the box pops up.  I have turned off auto spell check.  It just started doing this recently and I can't use my computer due to this.  How to fix and why did this occur? Thanks.

It could possibly be a faulty keyboard.  In Office applications, the F7 key launches the spell checker and perhaps it is being activated in some way.

Try to open Word 2010 programs in application safe and check.

Go to Start->Click on All programs-> Accessories-> Run->

Type winword /safe and Click on ok (Note: There should be a space between d and ‘/’)

If it works fine in application safe, then try to disable the adobe addins.

How to disable Add-ins in Word 2010:-

Step1: Click the File Tab in Word 2010 and Click Word Options.

Step2: In the left hand side of the Word Options dialog box, click Add-Ins.

Step3: Under ‘Manage’ Click the COM Add-ins

Step4: Uncheck all the Add-Ins listed under COM Add-ins.

Step5: Click close and restart Word.

I am using MSOffice 2010 Professional Plus on Windows 8. I have tried all the above approaches but the problem has not gone away. In addition, I have tried the following -

    1. repaired - but the problem persists
    2. reinstalled MS Office - but the problem persists
    3. turned off the COM addins - but the problem persists
    4. Checked the keyboard and the function keys - all the keys work well
    5. And here is the most bizzare one - I installed Libre Office. The problem occurs in that too now !

Its a bit annoying that this problem has been reported since 2010 and continues across different versions of Windows and MS Office, and yet there is no official response from MS.

Appreciate if someone in this group can help

    Thanks

    Suresh

I have the same problem. When I first loaded Office Professional Plus 2010 (purchased 2010, installed 2013), I managed to defeat the spell check box that kept popping up by vigorously turning off the spell check in each document. Since a batch of 31 automatic updates on 6/11/14, the popping up of the spell check box is followed by the popping up of the Spell Check is Complete box, which can only be gotten rid of by Ctrl-Alt-Del. Where is the old spell check, with the gentle red lines for spelling errors and green lines for grammar errors, without nasty pop ups? Running MSWord in safe mode shows those gentle lines without pop ups. But disabling COM add-ins did not fix the problem. One solution that keeps the spell check box at bay is Ctrl X, but only shutting down the program works with Spell Check is Complete.

I've tried to update normal.dot to turn of the spell check, but not sure what to do next.

The suggestion is good and may effect a good resolution of the problem; also consider this which worked to resolve problem of My spell check box keeps popping up out of the blue in my Word, Excel and Outlook. It will not go away and I can't type after the box pops up.  Adjusted File - View - Show Hidden Files, for the hidden files to be visible for next steps, and did these two things - renamed Normal.dot - could have opted to just delete it - from the Windows XP PC with Word 2003 file location c:\Documents and Settings\ ( < user >) \Application Data\Microsoft\Templates and second, copied from a user with similar work tasks a Word spellcheck file - could have opted to just rename or delete the file - CSAPI3T1.dll - at c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\Proof then re-adjusted in File - View - Do not Show Hidden and System Files, so hidden files are not visible, and restarted PC. Launched Word and all the needed work tasks are going fine; that message The spelling check is complete is not repeatedly popping up now. Problem is resolved. Another tip is that in Office 2003 you may easily select in the menu items at near the top of the Word 2003 window Help, then Detect & Repair and select restore my shortcuts, and let Word 2003 repair itself to fix a variety of problems that could occur such as corrupt files that needed for Word to work properly.
