Hi.

Since retiring in June, I no longer have business access to teams. I do still want to use teams so I renewed my 365 personal plan and upgraded my personal laptop. However, I have been unable to sync both calendars. Outlook calendar has the meeting but teams does not. I have tried many things and I do have teams ticked in add-ons. Would this be fixed by upgrading to family?

Hi Clive,

Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed explanation of your setup.

To clarify, Microsoft Teams calendar integration with Outlook is fully supported only for Microsoft 365 Work or School accounts. Unfortunately, this functionality is limited when using a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription. Even with the Teams add-in enabled in Outlook, syncing calendars between Outlook and Teams typically requires backend support from Exchange Online, which is not included in personal plans.

Upgrading to Microsoft 365 Family would not resolve this issue, as it remains within the personal-use tier and does not include the enterprise-level integration needed for full calendar sync.

As a workaround, you might consider:

  • Manually adding Teams meeting links to your Outlook events.
  • Sharing your Outlook calendar with your Microsoft account to view it in Teams (read-only).

If seamless integration is essential, I suggest exploring Microsoft 365 Business Basic or Standard plans, which are designed to support full calendar and Teams functionality.

I trust this provides the clarity you were looking for.

Best regards,

    Hi Zoevi

Thank you very much clarifying the situation. It has certainly avoided further costs which would have been pointless.

I will make the best of it but have to say that I am astonished that the package I have is supposed to integrate and simplify the processes within it but these two applications cannot communicate on such a basic task as syncing calendars.

However, your assistance has been very much appreciated.
