Do I need to upgrade to a Microsoft program to allow me to speak to Copilot rather than typing?

    Hi Gordon Russelll,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Just to better understand what you’re seeing, are you using Copilot through the Windows app, a browser or the mobile app? It would also help to know whether you’re signed in with a personal, work or school account and whether the voice option is missing entirely or simply not responding when you select it. If possible, please also check whether your microphone works in another app.

Since the automated phone service didn’t connect you with someone, you can try requesting chat support instead:

    1. Visit the official support contact page and sign in with the account you plan to use for the subscription.
    2. Type Chat Support, then select Get help.
    3. Scroll down and select Contact support.
    4. Under Products and services, choose Microsoft 365 and Office or Other Products, whichever best matches what you see.
    5. Under Category, select Manage My Subscription, then select Confirm.
    6. If offered, choose Chat with a support agent in your web browser.

Please avoid sharing your phone number, payment information or account details publicly.

I hope this helps you reach the appropriate support team.

    Best reagrds.

Voice features require an eligible Microsoft subscription, and availability also depends on region.

    For Microsoft Copilot:

    • Dictation lets spoken words become text instead of typing.
    • Copilot Voice lets a spoken back-and-forth conversation happen with Copilot.

    Availability by account type:

    • Dictation: available for work or school accounts.
    • Copilot Voice: available for work or school and personal accounts.

If voice is available for the account, start it by:

    1. Opening Copilot.
    2. Selecting the Voice icon for a voice conversation, or Start dictation to speak a prompt.
    3. Allowing microphone access if prompted.

Voice features are not currently available for users without a Microsoft Copilot license, although broader availability is planned.
