Since Microsoft Store is missing and parts of Start/taskbar are unresponsive after cleanup, use this order:
- Restart Windows Explorer
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Find Windows Explorer.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- This can refresh the taskbar and Start menu without a full restart.
- Restart the PC
- If possible, go to Start > Power > Restart.
- If Start is not responding, restart using another available method.
- Reset Microsoft Store cache
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand select OK. - A blank Command Prompt window should open, then close after about 10 seconds, and Microsoft Store should open automatically.
- Try to find apps another way
- Select Start, then All, and scroll the app list.
- Or press the Windows key and start typing the app name.
- This helps confirm whether apps are missing or only not opening from the usual shortcuts.
- Repair or reset affected apps if they still appear in Installed apps
- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the app.
- Select Advanced options.
- Choose Repair.
- If that does not help, choose Reset.
- Note: not all desktop apps support this.
- If Microsoft Store still cannot be found or apps still cannot install
- Open the Store app and search for the app again if it reappears.
- If it still does not appear, one documented cause is that the app may no longer be available, may be hidden by region/family settings, may be incompatible, or the PC may need a restart after updates.
- Recover deleted files if CCleaner removed local files
- Use Windows File Recovery if the deleted files were on a local drive and are not in Recycle Bin.
- Important: minimize use of the PC before recovery, because new activity can overwrite deleted data.
- Install Windows File Recovery from Microsoft Store if available.
- Basic command format:
winfr source-drive: destination-drive: [/mode] [/switches] - The source and destination drives must be different.
- Example for recovering documents from
C:toE::Winfr C: E: /regular /n \Users\<username>\Documents\
- If files were lost after a Windows change and not actually deleted, search the whole PC
- Right-click Start and select File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- In Search This PC, enter the missing file name.
- If found, right-click the file and select Open file location.
- If Search is not finding files, run the Search troubleshooter
- Right-click Start and select Search.
- Enter Control Panel.
- Search for indexing.
- Open Indexing options > Advanced.
- Under Index Settings, select Troubleshoot search and indexing.
- If Microsoft Store was heavily damaged by cleanup, an in-place repair install may be needed
- A Microsoft Q&A accepted answer for a similar CCleaner case recommends an in-place repair install to reinstall default apps, including Microsoft Store, while keeping personal files and apps.
- This is the next step if cache reset and normal recovery do not restore Store functionality.
