Issues with email changing font and size after sending

I've been having a consistent issue with my emails looking completely normal (set to my normal font and size) when typing, and then after I send, some of the email changes font and size. Therefore, half of my email is one font and size, and the other half is another. It looks very unprofessional and I'm not sure how to change it. I've googled a few things to try but it keeps happening. It also happens randomly but at least a few times a day.

Anyone else having this issue?

    Hi Mandie,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, I understand that after you send an email, some parts of the email content change in font or font size.

Please try the following steps one by one and let me know whether the issue is resolved:

    1. Update New Outlook to the latest version

Please check and make sure that you are using the latest version of New Outlook.

    1. Create a completely new test email
    • Select New Email.
    • Do not copy and paste any content from Word, websites, or previous emails.
    • Type a few lines of text directly into the email.
    • Temporarily do not add a signature.
    • Send the email and check whether the font or font size changes after it is sent.

If the test email displays correctly, the issue may be related to copied and pasted content or the email signature.

    1. Check copied content

When you need to copy content into an email, use the Match Destination Formatting option. Then send another test email and let me know whether the issue occurs again.

    1. Recreate the email signature
    • Recreate the signature directly in Outlook.
    • Do not copy the signature from Word, a website, or a previous email.
    • Send another test email to check whether the issue still occurs.
    1. Reset the default font

    Outlook > Settings > Composing

Check and set the same font and font size for:

    • New mail
    • Reply or forward

I hope this information is helpful.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.

For New Outlook for Mac, the most relevant checks are the compose font settings and clearing any mixed formatting in the draft.

    1. In Outlook for Mac, open Outlook on the menu bar > Settings > Fonts.
    2. Check the Default composition font for both:
      • New mail
      • Reply or forward
    3. Set both to the same font, style, size, and color.
    4. If a message draft already has inconsistent formatting, select the affected text and use Clear Formatting in the ribbon to remove the mixed formatting.

If the issue is specifically that the message looks correct on the Mac while composing but changes size after sending to a different platform, that behavior can be by design. Outlook for Mac can display a different font size after sending because of pixel-to-point or point-to-pixel conversion between Mac and Windows operating systems.

If the default font keeps resetting back to Calibri after restarting Outlook for Mac, that was a known issue fixed in build 16.22. After updating, save the default font again.
