A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
If SMS codes cannot be delivered, use another verification method already registered on the account. Microsoft states that if verification codes are still not arriving, another method must be chosen, or access to the listed phone or email must be restored.
For a personal Microsoft account, check these points:
- Avoid repeated code requests. Excessive or repetitive requests can temporarily block code delivery.
- If the phone blocks texts from unknown numbers, change that setting and choose I don't have a code to request another one.
- If the number on the account is a VOIP number, it cannot be used for sign-in or verification codes. A mobile phone number is required.
- If email is also configured as a verification method, check the correct mailbox and the junk folder. Valid codes come from an
@accountprotection.microsoft.comaddress. - If sign-in is possible by any existing method, go to the Security basics page, select Update info, and verify or replace the security info.
- If the sign-in flow shows I don't have any of these, use that option to replace security info.
If no alternate verification method is available and the registered phone cannot receive codes, there is no self-service bypass for two-step verification in the provided guidance. Support agents also cannot send verification codes or change account details. The next supported path is the Sign-in Helper tool:
If the account is a work or school account instead of a personal Microsoft account, sign in to the Security info page, select Update info, and choose a working method or I don't have any of these to replace the security info.
