A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
To stop OneDrive from syncing files, use the OneDrive app settings from the taskbar icon, not Windows Settings.
- Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar notification area.
- If it is not visible, select Show hidden icons.
- If OneDrive is not running, open Start, type OneDrive, and open the app.
- Select Help and Settings or the gear icon, then select Settings.
- To stop syncing everything from this PC:
- Go to the Account tab.
- Select Unlink this PC.
- To stop syncing only certain folders:
- In the Account tab, select Choose folders.
- Uncheck the folders that should no longer sync to the computer, then select OK.
Important details:
- Unlinking the PC does not delete files or data from OneDrive. Files remain available by signing in to OneDrive on the web.
- If a folder is unchecked in Choose folders, it is removed from the computer, but the folder and its contents remain available online.
- Some folders cannot be unchecked, including Documents, Desktop, Pictures, and Personal Vault.
- If only a temporary stop is needed, right-click the OneDrive icon and select Pause syncing for 2, 8, or 24 hours.
