Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi Jo,
Thank you for explaining your situation.
Based on your descriptions, I recommend the following steps:
1/ Cancel the Microsoft 365 Business trial
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center using the business administrator account that was used to start the trial.
- Go to Billing > Your products.
- Select the Microsoft 365 Business trial.
- Choose Turn off recurring billing or Cancel subscription, depending on which option is displayed.
- Follow the prompts to complete the process.
- Reference: Cancel your subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center
If you purchased the subscription through a reseller or another provider, you may need to contact that provider instead. Also, before canceling, download or back up any files, email, or other data stored under the business account that you want to keep.
2/ Remove the card from the business account
After the trial has been canceled or recurring billing has been turned off:
- In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Billing > Bills & payments > Payment methods.
- Locate the card.
- Select the three-dot menu next to it and choose Delete.
- Reference: Manage payment methods for Microsoft business accounts
If the Delete option is unavailable, the card may still be associated with an active subscription or billing profile. You may need to wait until the subscription is canceled or replace the payment method connected to the relevant billing profile before it can be removed.
3/ Sign out of the business account in the Office applications
On the laptop:
- Open an Office application such as Word or Excel.
- Go to File > Account.
- Under User Information, select Sign out for the business account.
- Close all Office applications.
- Reopen Word or Excel and select Sign in.
- Sign in using the personal Microsoft account that owns your existing Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription.
If the business account is also connected to Windows, go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school, select the account, and choose Disconnect.
- If Office continues to show the business account or an unlicensed product message, restart the laptop and sign in again. Reinstalling Office should normally only be necessary if changing the signed-in account does not update the license.
In case you cannot access the admin center, do not see the cancellation option, or are unable to remove the payment method, let me know so I can assist you with the next steps.
I hope this information helps move the case forward. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.
