Hi @Richard Nicholas
The screenshot appears to contain two separate errors, so troubleshoot them independently.
The message:
Invalid UPN format. UPN should follow username@domain format.
Current Value: 18583954114
indicates that whatever is initiating that chat/account request is passing a numeric value where a User Principal Name (UPN), such as ******@contoso.com, is expected. Don't use that numeric value as your Microsoft 365 username.
The Office installation message "The configuration file was not specified" is different. If you're installing Office using the Office Deployment Tool (ODT), setup.exe must be given an XML configuration file describing which Office product, architecture, language, and channel to install.
If you simply double-clicked setup.exe, try opening Command Prompt as Administrator, change to the folder containing the Office Deployment Tool and configuration XML, and run: setup.exe /configure configuration.xml
Replace configuration.xml with the actual filename if yours is different. A matching Microsoft Q&A case for Office LTSC 2024 was resolved using this method.
Before running it, you can use dir and confirm that you can see both files, for example:
setup.exe
configuration.xml
Also make sure Windows isn't hiding the extension and that the file hasn't accidentally been saved as configuration.xml.txt.
If you don't have an XML file, don't create one by guessing the settings. For an organization/volume deployment, use Microsoft's Office Customization Tool to generate the configuration appropriate for your Office product and licensing. The usual ODT workflow is then:
setup.exe /download configuration.xml
setup.exe /configure configuration.xml
If, however, you're installing a normal Microsoft 365 Personal/Family or retail Office purchase, please tell us where you obtained this setup.exe. You normally shouldn't need to manually create an ODT XML file for a standard consumer installation.
Also, could you clarify where the “Chat init request failed: 500” message appears? For example, is that displayed on a Microsoft support webpage, inside the Microsoft 365 admin center, or by the Office installer itself? That will help separate the UPN problem from the Office installation problem.
Please don't post your full email address, tenant ID, product key, or other account information publicly.
