How to reopen closed tabs after Microsoft Edge Crash?? Reopen closed tab does not work.

I had about 15 tabs opened, and Microsoft Edge abruptly crashed.

Reopen closed tab did not work this time around, please fix. Hadn't accessed some tabs in a couple of days and I'm not going to remember which ones they were exactly in my history so the Reopen Closed Tab would be very helpful but like I said, it does not work this time around for some unknown reason.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello , sorry about your problems. My name is Marco and I will do my best to help you.

You can do CTRL+SHIFT+T to reopen the last opened tabs as many times as you can.

Otherwise you have no choice but to go through the history. But you can search by keyword if that helps. Or just in Recently opened tab when you press ctrl+h.

    Hello AnonCat58,

When you say "Reopen closed tabs did not work this time around", did you not receive a popup to restore your tabs, or did you see the pop-up, but clicking on restore did not relaunch your tabs?

Also, were you able to reopen your tabs using K0MB suggestions?

I have the same problem, Edge crashed but still showed multiple processes in task manager but unable to pull any Edge process to foreground.

Restarted Edge did not get the prior session ended abruptly, restrore previos session tabs prompt.

Recently closed tabs just said no previous sessions / tabs to display!

Restarted Edge again, same results as above but DID get the restore previous session, however when clicked it did nothing!!

Not the first time this has happened, this bug should have been fixed LOOONG AGO!!

... where is that 'previous session' stored within Windows? Is it a folder or database accessible to end users?

That depends on what you mean by 'accessible'. Sessions and open tabs are stored in a strange proprietary format known as SNSS. Here are instructions for using a helpful 10-year-old web app to identify tabs from a crashed session:

Close down all Edge windows. Use Task Manager to ensure that no instances of msedge.exe are running.

Copy this path:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default

Open File Explorer (Winkey + E), paste into the address bar and press Enter.

Open the folder called Sessions. Each file in that folder contains details of the current and at least one previous session.

If you see a file called Tabs_{long number} whose modified date corresponds to the session you lost, you're in luck. Copy the file to a safe place (e.g. your desktop).

If you don't see any file from the lost session, right-click on the Sessions folder and select Restore previous version. If you see a previous version with a likely-looking date, click Restore > Restore to and choose a folder to restore to, e.g. on your desktop.

If you found a likely-looking Tabs_... file,

Open Edge and navigate to Chrome Session Restore / Recovery of corrupted Session files (lsauer.net)

Follow the instructions on the page to inject the file you saved at (4) above either by drag-and-drop or by using the Choose files box.

The small arrow ⏷ should reveal the tabs from the session concerned. Each entry is a link to the page, so you can open the ones you want in the current Edge session.

Kudos and thanks to Lorenz Sauer for making this possible 🙏

We really need Edge to periodically - and reliably - save the current browser state so that it can be restored later. Maybe it does it periodically now, but not reliably.

Having the same problem here I guess, let me try to explain better...
so when Edge crashes or in my case, I have a power outage, usually when you open Edge again it greets you with a popup saying "edge was not properly closed..." and if I want to restore the tabs that weren't properly closed. Well, now it isn't appearing anymore, and when I use "shift+alt+t" it restores the tabs I closed BEFORE the crash or power outage, but not the ones that were open DURING the crash or outage.
