I'm currently unemployed in WI

I was wondering if there are options for me to continue using Microsoft Word and/or extend the Premium free trial for another 6 months or more. I'm currently unemployed, and I would like to still utilize the work program to help me with projects to help me find work... Like a resume and cover letters, etc...

If you are unable to continue with the Microsoft 365 subscription, you can use the free version of the Office apps in a web browser, these apps do not have the full functionality that the installed apps do, but may suit your needs.

Files created in the free apps will be stored in your OneDrive account online, you can print them out if required and also download the files from OneDrive to your PC if you need to send the files to someone.

Microsoft does not publish a six-month trial extension, but you can continue using Word for the web at no charge with a Microsoft account after your Premium trial ends.

    Use Word online for free

    1. Go to Microsoft365.com.
    2. Sign in with your Microsoft account, or create one if needed.
    3. Select the app launcher in the upper-left corner, then choose Word.
    4. Create a document or upload an existing resume or cover letter to OneDrive.
    5. Your documents will save automatically to OneDrive.

The free plan includes the browser versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and 5 GB of OneDrive storage. It does not include the full desktop applications or all advanced features available with a paid subscription.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "What's the difference between a Microsoft 365 subscription and free web apps")

Create a resume or cover letter

    In Word for the web:

    1. Select File > New > Browse Templates.
    2. Select Explore all templates.
    3. Choose a resume or cover-letter template.
    4. Replace the sample text with your information.
    5. When finished, select File > Export > Download as PDF to create a version suitable for job applications.

Microsoft provides free resume and cover-letter templates, and Word for the web can export the completed document as a PDF.^2^

    Trial and other possible options

    • Microsoft’s published consumer trial is one month; the available Microsoft pages do not list a six-month extension based on unemployment or Wisconsin residency.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Try or buy Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Support")
    • If you need installed desktop Word rather than the browser version, a paid Microsoft 365 plan or a one-time-purchase edition such as Office 2024 is required under the published options.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Try or buy Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Support")
    • If you enroll at an eligible school and receive a school email address, ask the school whether it participates in Microsoft 365 Education. Eligibility depends on the institution; unemployment by itself does not establish eligibility.^4^
    • A Wisconsin public library or workforce-development center may provide computer access to desktop Office, but availability is local and is not specified by Microsoft’s licensing documentation.

Before the trial expires, download or copy any locally stored job-search documents you need. Documents already stored in OneDrive can be opened and edited through free Word for the web.
