Yes. The supported recovery path is:
- Clear malware from the PC first
Before changing anything, run a full antivirus scan. In Windows Security, open Virus and threat protection > Scan options > Full scan > Scan now. - Use the Sign-in Helper first
If the account alias was changed and the original email is no longer recognized, start with the Microsoft Sign-in Helper tool. It can either guide through self-help steps or offer the option to talk to an agent. - If sign-in still fails, use account recovery
If password reset does not work, use the Microsoft account recovery form. Use a working contact email for the recovery request and provide as much account information as possible. Microsoft states that more detail improves the chance of recovery, and responses are typically sent within 24 hours. - If unusual activity is still visible, report it from Security basics
On the Security basics page, select Review activity. If suspicious events appear under Unusual activity, select This wasn't me. If they appear under Recent activity, select Secure your account. - If access is restored, secure the account immediately
- Change the password to a strong new password.
- Check connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies.
- Add another way to sign in or verify identity under Additional security options.
- Consider enabling passwordless sign-in with Microsoft Authenticator.
Important limits from Microsoft:
- If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot reset the account or change account details.
- If the account no longer recognizes the original sign-in address during reset, Microsoft directs recovery through the Sign-in Helper first, then the account recovery form.
