Recover access to the Google account first because failure at gmail.com confirms that Outlook cannot complete Gmail authentication until Google accepts the account credentials.

    1. Recover the Google account

    1. Use Google’s official Google Account recovery process: ^1^
    2. Follow the recovery prompts for the applicable problem—password, username, or verification-code access.
    3. If recovery information was recently changed, Google notes that it can take up to seven days for that change to take effect. Some recovery methods can also be temporarily unavailable following repeated incorrect attempts.
    4. Once recovery is complete, sign in successfully at Gmail in the browser before returning to Outlook.

Do not pay an “account recovery” service or provide anyone with your password or verification code. Google does not provide telephone assistance for account sign-in recovery.^2^

    2. Reconnect Gmail in new Outlook

After browser access to Gmail works:

    1. Open new Outlook.
    2. Select View > View settings. Alternatively, select File > Account info.
    3. Open Accounts > Your accounts.
    4. If the Gmail account is listed but remains disconnected:
      • Select Manage beside it.
      • Select Remove.
      • Choose Remove from this device, not Remove from all devices.
    5. Under Email accounts, select Add Account.
    6. Enter the Gmail address and select Continue.
    7. Complete the Google sign-in window and grant the requested permissions.
    8. Select Done.^3^

Removing the account from Outlook does not delete the Google account. Avoid Remove from all devices, because Microsoft warns that this removes the account and associated Microsoft Cloud data across Outlook clients; items existing only in that cloud data could be lost.^3^

If new Outlook will not open far enough to remove the account

Only after Gmail works in the browser:

    1. Close new Outlook.
    2. Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook (New) > Advanced options.
    3. Select Repair first and reopen Outlook.
    4. If Repair does not restore access, return to the same page and select Reset.
    5. Reopen Outlook and add the Gmail account again.

Resetting removes the accounts and local app data from new Outlook, so the accounts and settings must be configured again.^4^

The INTERACTIONREQUIRED message does not by itself identify a password, Outlook, or account-configuration fault. In this case, the independent inability to sign in at gmail.com is the useful distinction: complete Google recovery first, then reconnect Outlook.
