    Hello

In order to use Teams to make phone calls, you need to use Teams business license, such as Teams Essentials, or Microsoft 365 business license that includes Teams. In addition, you will need to have Teams phone add on license and calling plan add on as well.

    Hi, @Jim Willison

Do you mean you want to use Microsoft Teams Free to dial regular mobile or landline phone numbers, similar to how you used Skype?

If so, Teams Free does not currently offer new paid calling plans for regular phone numbers. However, if you previously used Skype and still have active or inactive Skype Credit, you can use the "Skype Dial Pad" inside Teams Free.

Update Teams to the latest version, sign in using the same Microsoft account you used for Skype, then select "Settings and more" > "Skype Dial Pad". If Skype Credit is associated with that account, you should be able to enter a phone number and make the call.

Microsoft explains this here: Make a call with Skype Dial Pad in Microsoft Teams

If you do not have existing Skype Credit, the Skype Dial Pad normally will not appear, and Microsoft no longer sells new Skype Credit or Skype calling subscriptions.

Do you still have Skype Credit on the Microsoft account you used with Skype?

    Thanks!

It is not possible to make phone calls directly from Teams with a personal account (aka. Teams Free).

Phone calls are only possible from Skype Dial Pad (https://calling.web.skype.com/), but only if there is still remaining Skype Credit available.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to buy additional Skype Credit.

Teams can make calls in two different ways:

    • Call other Teams users: In Teams for personal use, open Chat, select the person, then choose Audio call or Video call. This works for one-to-one or group calls.
    • Call regular phone numbers: This requires Teams phone calling capability. If the Calls tab or dial pad is missing, that usually means the account does not have the required calling setup.

To call a phone number when calling is enabled:

    1. Open Calls.
    2. Open the dial pad or Make a call.
    3. Enter the phone number.
    4. Select Call.

Other ways to call in Teams:

    • From a chat, select Audio call or Video call.
    • From Calls > Contacts, select a contact and call them.
    • On desktop, /call can be used from the search or command box to start a call to a person.

If the goal is to use Teams just like Skype for calling landlines or mobile numbers, Teams Free/personal does not provide that by default. Context indicates phone-number calling is available with business/enterprise Teams phone capabilities and an appropriate calling plan. Teams for personal use supports calls between Teams users.

If the dial pad is not visible, that matches the documented behavior when phone calling is not enabled for the account.
