Sole Global Admin locked out by MFA – Data Protection case still unresolved after 3 weeks

Hi, I'm locked out of our company's Microsoft 365 admin account because of MFA, and I've been stuck for about 3 weeks now.

I'm the only Global Administrator. My only registered MFA method was Microsoft Authenticator, and I removed the old account from the app, so I can no longer approve sign-in requests.

I know the password, but when I sign in to admin.microsoft.com, it still shows "Approve sign in request" and asks me to approve a number in Authenticator. I never get the "More information required" prompt to set up MFA again, so it looks like the old method is still registered on my account.

I opened a case with the Data Protection team (Case ID: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]) on Sep 22. They told me the request was approved, but they couldn't reach me by phone and need a phone follow-up to complete the MFA reset. They also sent me the MFA setup steps, which I followed, but I still get the same Authenticator prompt.

I replied to their email on Oct 6 with a screenshot, asking them to reset my MFA or issue a Temporary Access Pass, but I haven't heard back since. Our business still can't access the admin center.

Could a moderator please help escalate this case so the MFA reset can be completed? I'm in Thailand (UTC+7) and happy to take a call at any time that works for the engineer.

Thank youUser's image

    Dear Pisit,

I'm sorry to hear you've been locked out of your only admin account for three weeks. That's a long time to be without access, and I understand how frustrating the wait has been. Unfortunately, as a forum moderator, I am not able to reset your MFA or escalate the case directly. My role here is limited to providing general guidance you can apply from your side.

I've checked your case. The Data Protection team closed it because the user ID on the case didn't match the account that needs the MFA reset, so they couldn't complete it.

To get it moving again, please do one of the following:

    • Reply to the latest email from the support agent. Give the correct user ID, which is the full sign-in address of the locked Global Administrator account. Replying to the email should reopen the case with the same agent.
    • Open a new service request. Include your previous case number so the new agent has the full history.

In either case, please mention that you're in Thailand (UTC+7) and available for a call at any time, so they can complete the phone verification.

I hope you're back in your admin account soon. Please let me know if you need anything else.
