The margins on my Outlook emails changed and I need to change them back to how they were originally.

For Classic Outlook for Windows, this is commonly caused by either Immersive Reader being turned on or the folder view being changed.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Turn off Immersive Reader
      • In the reading pane, check whether an Immersive Reader tab is showing.
      • If it is, select it and choose Close Immersive Reader.
      • In a compose window, check the Message tab on the ribbon. If Immersive Reader is highlighted, select it to turn it off.
      • When this mode is off, the message text should return to the normal full width of the pane.
    2. Reset the current Outlook folder view
      • Open the folder where the layout changed, such as Inbox.
      • Go to the View tab.
      • Select Reset View.
      • This restores the folder to Outlook’s default layout.
    3. Reapply the reading pane layout if needed
      • On the View tab, select Reading Pane.
      • Choose the position preferred, such as Right or Off.
    4. If multiple mail folders changed, apply the corrected view to them
      • After fixing the Inbox, go to View.
      • Select Change View > Apply Current View to Other Mail Folders.
      • Select the folders to update and confirm.
    5. If the view keeps changing
      • Close Outlook.
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Run: outlook.exe /safe
      • If the layout is stable in Safe Mode, an add-in may be affecting the view settings.

Important: Reset View restores defaults for that folder and can remove customized view settings.
