A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
If the passkey was deleted in Microsoft Authenticator but registration still fails or reports that it already exists, remove the locally stored passkey and then verify it is also removed from Security info.
- In Microsoft Authenticator on Android, tap the account name.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Delete passkey.
- Check Security info and delete the same passkey there if it still appears.
This is relevant when a passkey was stored locally in Authenticator but was not fully registered on the authentication server. In that case, retry registration after deleting the local passkey.
If the issue is with a work or school account and access is still blocked after deleting and retrying, the next step is to contact the organization’s IT admin to reset MFA methods or require re-registration. If the account is a personal account, send logs from Authenticator using Send feedback from the app’s top-level menu and then contact Support.
