access personal vault

Personal Vault on desktop Mac is supported only through the web, not as a local folder in Finder. Personal Vault is available from the web, the mobile app, or from a Windows PC.

To access it on a Mac:

1. Open OneDrive in a supported browser.
2. Use the latest version of Microsoft Edge, Chrome, or Firefox.
3. In OneDrive, select Personal Vault.
4. Complete the second verification step using one of the supported methods: password, PIN, fingerprint/face if available, Microsoft Authenticator, or a code sent by email or SMS.

If it works on iPhone but not on the Mac, try these checks:

1. Test in the latest Edge, Chrome, or Firefox.
2. Try a Private/Incognito window.
3. Sign out of OneDrive and Microsoft sites in the browser, then sign in again.
4. Clear browser cookies and cache for Microsoft sites.
5. Temporarily disable content blockers, privacy extensions, VPN software, or iCloud Private Relay.
6. If signing in with a passkey or Touch ID, try using the Microsoft account password instead.

Useful behavior to know:

• On the web, Personal Vault locks automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity.
• Personal Vault files do not appear in search results.
• Office files in Personal Vault can be edited on a PC or on the web; on mobile they can only be viewed unless moved out of the vault.

If the vault opens but shows that it is not up to date:

1. Unlock Personal Vault.
2. Close any files stored in it.
3. Wait for sync to complete.
4. Lock it again after sync finishes.
