    Hi, Stefan Booveanu

Leaving a Microsoft family group does not always clear an app restriction on the PC. The next step depends on whether Windows is holding on to an old setting or the Microsoft account still requires parental consent.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

On the affected PC, press Windows + R, type cmd, and select OK. Paste this command and press Enter:

    schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask"

Restart the PC and try Spotify again. This runs the Family Safety reset task for that device.

If the request still appears and you’re an adult, check the birth date on your Microsoft account profile. If it’s wrong or you cannot edit it, follow the“I’m an adult, but Microsoft thinks I’m a child” steps in Microsoft’s birth-date guidance.

If the account is underage, leaving the group does not replace parental consent. Ask a parent or guardian to help restore the required consent and app access. If there’s no adult account available to do that, explain that specific problem when contacting support rather than repeating the PC steps.

If the account already left the Microsoft Family group but app access still shows Ask for permission, the usual fix is to refresh the family status on the PC and Microsoft Store.

    1. Check whether the account is still listed in a family:
      • Go to family.microsoft.com.
      • If the profile still appears in a family, leave the family group.
      • If Leave is not available, the current organizer must remove the account or make it an organizer first.
    2. On the PC, open:
      • Settings > Accounts > Family
      • If a family is still listed there, leave it from that page too.
    3. Refresh the Windows sign-in state:
      • Sign out of Windows from the Start menu profile icon.
      • Sign back in.
    4. Refresh Microsoft Store sign-in:
      • Open Microsoft Store.
      • Select the profile icon.
      • Sign out.
      • Sign back in.
    5. Restart the PC, then try Spotify again.

If the prompt still appears, repeat the Microsoft Store sign-out/sign-in once more and restart again to force a full policy refresh.

If the account is no longer in any family but the restriction still remains on that Windows profile, creating a new Windows user profile can help because old Family Safety restrictions can remain cached in the current profile. When copying files, do not copy the hidden AppData folder, because that can carry over the problematic configuration.

If sign-in problems prevent leaving the family or refreshing the account, use the Sign-in helper. For technical support, use Contact Microsoft Support.
