OneDrive not working with macOS 13.7.8.

My iMac is on 13.7.8 and cannot receive updates to higher versions.

Is there a fix for this issue.

Can I continue to use the version of Onedrive that works with 13.7.8?

Found the last version of OneDrive that works with Ventura 13.7.8

Like me, I'm guessing you are holding on to your old mac

Delete the app on the App folder (uninstall any newer/current versions of Microsoft Onedrive)

Install this version of the app (took some digging to find out the last version that works)

    Remember to disable auto-update

Which version of Onedrive supports macOS 13.7.8.

How do I install that version, as Microsoft have already removed it from my iMac, WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE.?

    Hi, Ken Darvell

At the moment, macOS 13 Ventura still appears to be within the supported range for the standalone OneDrive sync app, so the problem may be the installer/update process or leftover OneDrive files on the Mac, rather than the 1 TB storage being removed.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

First, try installing OneDrive from the Mac App Store instead of the Microsoft website installer. If the standalone installer is failing or saying it cannot install in that location, the App Store version may avoid that package installer issue.

If that does not work, check whether OneDrive is still in your Applications folder. If it is there but has a “no entry” symbol or will not open, move it to Trash, restart the Mac, then try the App Store install again.

It is also recommended that you check for old OneDrive leftovers before reinstalling. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder, then check these locations:

    ~/Library/CloudStorage

    ~/Library/Containers

    ~/Library/Group Containers

If you see folders clearly named OneDrive or Microsoft OneDrive, move only those to Trash, restart, then reinstall OneDrive.

For the version number, the current standalone OneDrive build listed for Mac is around 26.095.0519 and it shows minimum macOS 13.0, so it should normally include Ventura 13.7.8. I would avoid downloading old OneDrive installers from random websites unless you can verify they are from Microsoft’s own download servers.

Your 1 TB storage is not stored “inside” the Mac app. It belongs to your Microsoft 365 subscription and Microsoft account. Even if OneDrive is removed from the iMac, your files should still be available by signing in at OneDrive on the web. The Mac app is only the sync tool.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.

OneDrive can continue to work on macOS 13.7.8, but only with the versions of OneDrive and Office that still support that macOS release. Once macOS 13 becomes unsupported, OneDrive and Office apps on that system will no longer receive any updates, including security fixes and new features.

    Key points for this scenario:

    1. macOS support and updates
    • When macOS is not on a supported version, Office apps (including OneDrive) keep working but stop receiving updates.
    • This means the currently installed OneDrive version that works on 13.7.8 can continue to be used, but it will not get future fixes or security updates once 13.x falls out of support.
    1. Best practice
    • To keep receiving mainstream support and security updates for OneDrive and the rest of Microsoft 365, the recommended path is to run a supported macOS version.
    • If the iMac cannot be upgraded beyond 13.7.8, OneDrive can still be used in its last compatible version, with the understanding that it will eventually be frozen at that version.
    1. If OneDrive stops working after an update
    • If a newer OneDrive build no longer works on 13.7.8, installing an older, compatible build (the last version that supports that macOS) is required. For other Office apps on older macOS versions, this is handled by installing the last supported build (for example, Office 16.88 on macOS 12). The same principle applies to OneDrive.
    1. Security considerations
    • Continuing to use OneDrive on an unsupported macOS version means missing security updates both from macOS and from Office/OneDrive, which increases risk over time.

In summary, the existing OneDrive version that works with macOS 13.7.8 can continue to be used, but it will eventually stop receiving updates once that macOS version is no longer supported. For ongoing fixes and security updates, a macOS upgrade to a supported version is required.
