My computer says I need to turn OneDrive OFF so that it can be updated. How do I turn it OFF? Not uninstall it.

Quit OneDrive from its taskbar menu, run the update, and then reopen OneDrive when the update finishes.

Turn OneDrive off temporarily

  1. Look near the clock on the Windows taskbar for the blue or white cloud icon.
    • If it is not visible, select the up arrow (Show hidden icons).
  2. Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon.
  3. Select Pause syncing.
  4. Select Quit OneDrive, then confirm if prompted.
  5. Verify that the cloud icon disappears from the notification area, and then run the update.

This closes OneDrive and stops synchronization without uninstalling or unlinking it.^1^

Turn OneDrive back on afterward

  1. Press the Windows key or open Start.
  2. Type OneDrive.
  3. Select the OneDrive app.

The cloud icon should reappear near the clock, and synchronization should resume.^1^

Do not select Unlink this PC or Uninstall for this update—the Quit OneDrive option is sufficient.
