On my Windows 11 computer, my account no longer has administrator rights. When a UAC prompt appears, only the "No" button is shown, with no option to enter a password.

I have tried several methods using PowerShell and Command Prompt, as well as booting into Safe Mode and accessing advanced recovery options, but the issue remains unresolved.

I would like to regain administrator rights without losing my personal files or reinstalling Windows, if possible.

What reliable solution do you recommend? **

Încearcă să faci contul vizibil din nou:

Ține Shift >> Restart >> Troubleshoot >> Advanced options >> Command Prompt, apoi scrie regedit.

Hi, can you sign into another administrator account on this PC? If so, open:

Settings >> Accounts >> Other users >> select your usual account >> Change account type >> Administrator >> OK.

Then sign back into your usual account.

If there’s no other administrator account available, please let me know—these steps require an existing administrator and won’t work from your current account.

A reliable path that avoids reinstalling Windows is to try the built-in Administrator account first, then use it to restore the main account to the Administrators group.

    1. Open Computer Management from Search.
    2. Go to Local Users and Groups > Users.
    3. Check whether the Administrator account shows a down-arrow icon, which means it is disabled.
    4. Double-click Administrator > clear Account is disabled > select Apply.
    5. Sign out.
    6. Sign in with the Administrator account.
    7. After signing in, change the affected account back to an administrator.

    Important details for this scenario:

    • The symptom where UAC shows only No and no credential option is consistent with there being no usable administrator context available for elevation.
    • Since Safe Mode, PowerShell, Command Prompt, and advanced recovery attempts were already tried, using Computer Management to enable the built-in Administrator account is the most direct supported recovery step from the available guidance.
    • This approach is intended to preserve personal files because it restores access rather than resetting Windows.

If Local Users and Groups is not available or the Administrator account cannot be enabled from there, the remaining documented fallback in the available guidance is a WinRE reset. That can be started by holding Shift while selecting Restart, then going to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC. Choose Keep my files if personal data must be preserved. This can still remove apps and settings, so backing up important files first is recommended.
