I am getting adverts in my Outlook.com Inbox.

I am getting adverts in my Outlook.com Inbox and can only stop this if I subscribe to MS 365. Is there another similar free email account?

I have no problem with adverts in the righthand side panel. I can just ignore them. I do have problems with emails I have not requested being sent by Microsoft to my Inbox and which I know nothing about and might contain malicious spam or viruses.

Hi, yes—Proton Mail offers a free, ad-free mailbox. You can use it through its website or mobile app, although the free plan has limited storage.

Free Outlook.com includes advertising, and there’s no built-in option to permanently disable it without a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription. Also, switching to another free email account inside the new Outlook app can still show Outlook’s ads, so use the alternative provider’s own website or app.

It is not lawful for Microsoft to send email adverts to your Outlook.com inbox without your permission. Microsoft must not send marketing emails or texts to individuals without specific consent, and there is a limited exception for your own previous customers, often called the ‘soft opt-in’. If you have not provided consent, Microsoft is not allowed to send you marketing emails.
