I have been signed out out of the Authenticator app so how am I supposed to authenticate if I can log into the Authenticator app with my login when it’s asking me for a code? Such a silly system.

    Hi @Maria TPH

May I ask are you a normal user or the IT admin of your tenant?

If you are a normal user, please ask your IT admin reset your MFA by using this article: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID |…

If you are the IT admin and there is no other admin that can reset your MFA method, you will need to contact Data Protection team. They can help you regain access to your tenant.

Please visit the following page and reach out to phone number via: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

From what I know, you will need to get past the initial AI system to reach the live support team. You can refer to the guide below for tips on how to get through more easily:User's image

If you have tried phone support and it's not working, please follow this link to create a trial tenant: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/business/microsoft-365-business-basic?msockid=3eb6980b5c6860e63a588d0c5d1761d6 - after that you will be able to access to Microsoft 365 Admin Center to raise the ticket

Assuming that you have already created an account after registering a free trial and you can go to Microsoft 365 admin center and click "Help & support" icon to raise your ticket.

Please mention that you are raising ticket on behalf of the affected tenant that you do not have access to.

On the other hand, if you do create the trial and it resolves the issue, please remember to cancel the subscription afterward to avoid any related charges.

i attempted your steps and this is the output: Use a verification code

Are your verification methods current? Check at https://aka.ms/mfasetup

    Error Code: 500121

Select Sign in another way or I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now at the verification prompt; if no alternative appears, recovery depends on whether this is a personal account, a work or school account, or an Authenticator backup.

    1. Try an already-registered alternative

    On the sign-in screen:

    1. Select Sign in another way or I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now.
    2. Choose an existing recovery email, phone, security key, passkey, or another registered device.
    3. After signing in, update the account’s security methods so the inaccessible Authenticator registration is no longer the only option.

Only methods registered before the lockout will appear. A different device that was already configured with Authenticator can also approve the request.^1^

    2. If Authenticator backup was enabled

Recovery is available only on the same device platform—an iOS backup restores to iOS, and Android to Android.^2^

    • Android: Sign out of any accounts currently added to Authenticator, then select Restore from backup or Begin recovery before signing in. Use the personal Microsoft account originally selected as the recovery account.
    • iOS: Ensure iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain, and iCloud Backup are enabled, install Authenticator, and complete the restore.
    • If an account displays Sign in to restore your account or Action required, select it and complete verification using the offered email or phone method.

For work or school accounts, backup restores only the account name; the account must still be verified and registered again. For personal accounts using passwordless sign-in, the account name is restored, but sign-in is still required.^2^

    3. Personal Microsoft account

If every registered security method is inaccessible:

    1. Start signing in to the Microsoft account.
    2. At Verify your identity, select I don’t have any of these.
    3. Follow the prompts to replace the security information.^3^

Avoid repeatedly requesting codes, because excessive requests can trigger a temporary block. Microsoft support agents cannot send verification codes or directly change protected account details.^3^

    Once access is restored:

    1. Open the Microsoft account Security tab.
    2. Select Manage how I sign in.
    3. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
    4. Add Authenticator plus a recovery email or passkey, depending on the choices offered.^4^

    4. Work or school account

Contact the organization’s IT administrator and request MFA re-registration. An Authentication Administrator can perform this at:

    1. Microsoft Entra admin center → Entra ID → Users
    2. Select the affected user.
    3. Select Authentication methods → Require re-register MFA.
    4. On the next sign-in, register Authenticator again on the phone.

This operation removes the affected user’s registered phone numbers, Authenticator apps, and software OATH tokens, so the administrator should account for any methods that need to be added again.^5^

If this is the tenant’s only administrator account and no alternative method or usable backup exists, another administrator cannot perform that reset; Microsoft Support must handle tenant-access verification.^6^
