Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Switch from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Personal by cancelling the Family subscription and selecting Personal as the replacement plan at renewal.
Change to Microsoft 365 Personal
- Sign in to Services & subscriptions using the Microsoft account that owns the Family subscription:
https://account.microsoft.com/services - Find Microsoft 365 Family and select Manage.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- On the cancellation page, choose Microsoft 365 Personal as the lower-feature replacement plan.
- Follow the displayed instructions to complete the change.
Your Family subscription remains usable until its expiration or renewal date. The account may continue to display Family until then; Microsoft says the new plan will take effect at renewal, and you will not be charged for it before that point. You do not need to reinstall the Office applications when moving between these Microsoft 365 home subscriptions.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Switch between Microsoft 365 subscriptions")
If the page only offers Turn off recurring billing, use that option so Family expires without renewing, and then purchase Personal using the same Microsoft account. Turning off recurring billing does not end access immediately.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Turn recurring billing on or off for a Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")
If Apple, Google, or another retailer bills the subscription, Manage will identify that provider; the cancellation and plan change must be completed through that provider.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Switch between Microsoft 365 subscriptions")
Senior rate and less-expensive alternatives
A Microsoft Q&A accepted answer reports that Microsoft does not currently offer a Microsoft 365 discount specifically for seniors.^3^
Possible individual alternatives are:
- Microsoft 365 Personal: one person, including the desktop and web Office applications.
- Microsoft 365 Basic: one person, with web applications and 100 GB of cloud storage, but not the full desktop Office applications.
- Free Microsoft 365 web apps: browser versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with 5 GB of OneDrive storage.
- One-time Office purchase: no subscription renewal, although features and included applications differ from Microsoft 365.
Microsoft’s plan comparison describes Personal, Basic, and the free web applications so you can compare their current features and prices before changing.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID]'s-the-cost "What's the difference between a Microsoft 365 subscription and free web apps")
Do not post payment details or account information here; billing changes must be made while signed in to the Microsoft account.
