Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Use Microsoft’s Contact Support escalation and request account-and-billing assistance; if the charge cannot be tied to an account you control, report the card as compromised and request replacement rather than asking the issuer only to block the recurring merchant charge.
Reach Microsoft billing support
- Open Contact Microsoft Support.
- Enter: Unrecognized recurring Xbox Game Pass charge; account unknown.
- Select Get Help.
- Scroll past the suggested articles and select Contact Support.
- Sign in with any working personal Microsoft account—the contact account does not have to be the account generating the charge.
- Choose the closest available options for Xbox or Microsoft account → Account and billing, then select Chat with a support agent or another offered contact method.
Microsoft’s official support page confirms that account-and-billing requests can be routed to an appropriate support option, which may include chat.^1^ Availability and contact methods depend on the product and region.
Provide the agent with:
- The exact statement descriptor, including all letters and numbers
- Charge dates, amounts, and currency
- The card’s last four digits and card type
- Any transaction/reference IDs supplied by the issuer
- A screenshot or statement with unrelated transactions and personal data redacted
- A clear request to identify and stop the recurring Xbox billing
Do not post those details in this Q&A forum; contributors here cannot access billing records or accounts.
If support cannot associate the charge with your accounts
A subscription on somebody else’s Microsoft account cannot be managed from your account. In that situation, ask the card issuer for both actions:
- Open disputes/chargebacks for each unauthorized transaction. A chargeback is the issuer’s process for reversing a payment allegedly made without your consent.^2^
- Mark the card credentials as stolen or compromised and replace the card/account number. Do not frame the request merely as “block this recurring merchant.” Microsoft specifically warns that disputing charges alone does not prevent additional fraudulent charges and advises telling the issuer that the card has been compromised.^3^
If the first bank representative says recurring charges cannot be blocked, request the issuer’s fraud department and ask for card replacement plus cancellation of any automatic updater/token that could pass new card details to the merchant. Whether the issuer can disable those mechanisms is determined by the issuer.
Optional final account check
If you have not used Microsoft’s newer payment investigation page, sign in to Manage your payments, locate the charge, and select Investigate. It is the official workflow for unexpected Microsoft charges and may identify purchases made through another familiar account or by a family member.^3^ Since the account is currently unknown and automated options have already been exhausted, this should not delay the support escalation or compromised-card report.
