Contact Microsoft 365 business support through the current number for your country or region and request follow-up on the existing case by the Microsoft 365 Data Protection team, because Q&A moderators cannot access, escalate, or modify Microsoft support cases.
Request follow-up on the existing case
Since the general phone route did not resolve this, use the regional number listed on Microsoft’s current support page and make the request specific:
- Open Contact Microsoft customer support, select Work account, and find the technical-support number for your country or region ^1^.
- Ask for Microsoft 365 for business technical support.
- State:
I am the sole Global Administrator and cannot complete MFA. A Microsoft 365 Data Protection case is already open, but the promised callback has not occurred. Please locate the existing case, add an urgent callback request, and route the follow-up to the Microsoft 365 Data Protection team. I can complete tenant-ownership verification through a private Microsoft channel.
- Provide the case number, tenant domain, affected administrator sign-in name, reachable telephone number, time zone, and concise business-impact statement.
- Ask the representative to:
- Confirm that the case remains open.
- Read back the callback number and time zone recorded on it.
- Add your latest availability to the case.
- Request escalation or supervisory review due to the missed callback and business impact.
Microsoft documents that technical support in English is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also warns that phone verification can require a PIN sent to the email address or phone number registered in the Microsoft 365 organization profile ^2^.
Only Microsoft’s support-controlled identity-verification process can complete this tenant recovery. Community moderators cannot reset MFA or internally advance the case; closely matched sole-administrator lockout cases identify Data Protection as the recovery team ^3^.
If phone support cannot retrieve or route the case
Create a temporary Microsoft 365 trial tenant solely to obtain authenticated access to Help & support. This workaround is documented in closely matching Microsoft Q&A cases involving a sole Global Administrator trapped by MFA ^4^.
- Create the trial tenant and sign in with its new administrator.
- In the Microsoft 365 admin center, select Help & support.
- Enter contact support. If Support Assistant is enabled, turn it off.
- Select Contact Support, choose phone or email, and submit this description:
This request concerns an existing Microsoft 365 Data Protection case for another tenant. I am its sole Global Administrator and am locked out by MFA. Please locate or route this contact to the existing case and request an urgent callback from the Microsoft 365 Data Protection team. This temporary tenant was created only because I cannot access the original tenant.
- Include the existing case number and reachable contact details, but upload ownership or billing evidence only when Microsoft provides a private support channel.
- Record the trial renewal date and cancel before that date if it is no longer needed; do not assume support can automatically merge cases created under different tenants.
Conditional Partner Center route
If this lockout concerns a Partner Center account, Microsoft separately documents +1 866-807-5850 as the Azure Data Protection contact for the “only global admin” scenario ^5^. That number is published on a Partner Center troubleshooting page, so it should not replace the regional Microsoft 365 route for an ordinary Microsoft 365 tenant.
After access is restored
Create at least two cloud-only emergency access accounts with permanent Global Administrator assignments, distinct authentication methods, securely stored credentials, and monitoring. Microsoft recommends these accounts specifically to recover from MFA, Conditional Access, and other identity-lockout scenarios ^6^.
Remove the full case number and any personal contact details from public forum posts; provide them only through Microsoft’s private support channels.
